are more babies born at night, or is there no difference in numbers?

was just wondering, as everyone of my friends who has had a baby in the past 3 years seems to have had them in the hours of darkness. My DS was born at 11.25pm, and the only people I know who had day time babies are my mum (I was born at 10.15am apparently - all 3 of my siblings were born at night though) and friends who have had ELCS.

just idle pondering at 39 weeks, as I'm hoping for a daytime baby if she arrives in the next few days, as we have no childcare for DS overnight until the weekend :o

I went into labour at night, dc born late evening and mid-afternoon after long labours (days) and by emcs so not natural times iyswim.

I think a lot of people go into labour at night when relaxed.

Heavensmells · 29/05/2012 09:37

Two of mine born in the morning and one in the evening.

DD1 born 10.56 am (labour started about 7am the day before)
DS born 10.38 am (labour started about 6.30 am that morning)
DD2 born 1.46 am (about started 47 minutes earlier)

All VB

I always thought that if a woke up without labour pains I could wright that day off and the baby wouldn't arrive that day. The midwife told be labour could start anytime during the day or night, as I found out with DD2.

DiscoDaisy · 29/05/2012 09:48

DC1 10.22pm
DC2 8.34pm
DC3 5.45am
DC4 10.30am
DC5 3.49pm

I have a nice even spread and my longest labour was 10 hrs.

MrsTrellisOfSouthWales · 29/05/2012 09:48

Ancedotally, second and subsequent babies are born after the mother labours at night i.e. when she has peace and quiet from her PFB Wink

Or as soon as the MIL leaves the house, the kids go to school etc - it's all about the oxytocin.

Ds - Waters broke at 1.30am, contractions an hour later - Born at 4.08pm
Dd1 - Contractions started at 11am - Born at 10.14pm
Dd2 - Contractions started at 11am - Born at 3.12am
Dd3 - Contrations started at 3am - Born at 8.22am

So I go into labour in the morning time and labour lengths have varied with no.3 being the longest.

WhyMeWhyNot · 29/05/2012 11:03

No 1. 6.15pm. Labour had started at midnight. just under 19 hrs.
No 2. 1.15am. Labour had started at 11am. 14 and a bit hours.
No 3 8.36pm Induced 6pm night before, had 3 attempts to start me off, then went from nothing to 10cm in mins and she was born on a trolley somewhere between ante natal and delivery. It says length of labour 5mins on my notes.

hanahsaunt · 29/05/2012 11:19

I've had 4 SVDs and all during the day:

9.10am
5.10pm
2.30pm
1.40pm

(give or take a few m inutes).

I am told that it is a myth that most babies are born at night?.however, as a mw looking after homebirthers, almost every birth involves some night duty. If someone is "niggling" in the day, I think, just wait till it gets dark...

LittleWhiteWolf · 29/05/2012 22:38

Both of my children were born around lunchtime; DD at 12:59pm, DS at 14:19pm. Mind you with DD my waters had broken at exactly 8pm the night before, so I was labouring all night and morning. DS was all in one day, with my waters being broken at 10:05am.

Bibs123 · 01/06/2012 22:09

my dd was born at 5.36pm, however i went into labour the evening before when it was a full moon. the midwife at the hospital said that they were always much busier on nights with full moons. . .

LynetteScavo · 01/06/2012 22:12

I think nature intends babies to be born at night.

My only 100% natural birth resulted in DD being born at 4.18am. (Went into labour during the evening)

I also think babies are supposed to be born in the spring. Which is why Ipeople feel hornier in warm/hot weather. Although not all people, according to a recent thread.

brettgirl2 · 02/06/2012 08:47

Both mine were born during the day (morning and afternoon) but I went into labour both times at night.

bettybat · 02/06/2012 09:18

I don't know why but it bothers me, the thought of being woken in the night with the beginning of labour. I keep thinking it's like when you're ill, and you wake in the night and you have that feeling that you just know you're going to be sick. I used to get a lot of migraines, go to bed with a headache, hope I would sleep it off but wake up in excruciating pain and know and I'd been spending several hours of the night in the bathroom, vomiting and being in agony.

Of course it's not the same :) But there's something about the night time/being ill/in pain that I'm not a fan of. It's like the rest of the world is asleep and has disappeared and you're alone with your pain. Isn't that a rubbish way to look at it!

JubileeTatWearer · 02/06/2012 09:23

DC1 was born at 8am, DC2 at 5am.

With DC2 I definitely "waited" until after DC1 was safely tucked up in bed. I remember thinking I didn't want her to worry. The contractions ramped up in earnest about 30 minutes after she went to bed.

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 02/06/2012 09:28

My waters broke at 2 am and DS was born at 11am

first1 · 02/06/2012 21:45

28 hour induction, dd born at 17:58

Kveta · 02/06/2012 21:47

hmm, this is all very encouraging that DC2 may decide to arrive during the day. Typically we now have round the clock childcare in place until next sunday when day time is the only time for 2 weeks we have nobody on standby :o
