Anyone hypnobirthed?

I probably sound really stupid, but 40 weeks pregnant, due date today, woke up at 3am having period like pains every 15 mins until I went back to sleep at about 4.30, 5.00 ish. I've since lost my plug, and have had a couple of big period pains, but also lots of little ones too. What counts as a contraction? It is my first baby by the way. I've been doing the visualisations, but am trying to keep track of the contractions but not sure which ones count iyswim?

Thanks in anticipation

For me, the time to go to hospital was when the contractions seemed to be constant. However if you've lost your plug, does that mean your waters have gone?

Haven't hypnobirthed though, sorry!

Not yet, I know it could be a while (days to weeks) after the plug has gone, but at all the classes they say how it isn't painful and I'm having some "powerful surges" quite irregularly but also mini ones. I guess I'll know when I'm ready! (have visions of birthing on the side of the motorway!!)

Blimey I could have written this yesterday afternoon kimmi, however, woken up this morning (after sleeping like a log) and feel reasonably okay, pains have gone and i'm left with a stitch. When I did my breathing exercises yesterday the pain subsided, then I thought OMG what if I go into labour on my own and I dont even know it. I came to the same conclusion, I reckon I'll know it when it happens.
Have everything crossed for you today :)

Yeah, I did te relaxation exercises, then thought what if I now don't know! I'm hoping it's soon, it's too hot to be heavily pregnant!

I did hypnobirthing. I think the idea is that you don't focus on counting the contractions etc just try and relax through it all (slow breathing, safe place, globe over head thingy, clock contraption, endorphin massage etc). So don't worry now about what counts as a contraction just try to remain in a relaxed state as much as possible until your contractions get to the point that you need to focus hard to get through them, which is when you can use your fast breathing (counting to 20ish- although I found saying the alphabet very fast more effective and easier to do without concentrating Hmm).
Believe me, unless you are far better at relaxing yourself than I, you will know when they get serious and when you need to get to the hospital.
Sorry I can't remember the proper names for stuff, I hope you know what I mean.

Just re-read your last post, and even when it isn't painful, the surges are very powerful and you will definitely know. As well as being regular (3 mins apart), they need to be strong and last a minute.

Really really good luck. I will watch your progress with interest. I love hearing about other hypnobirthers experiences.

Mine felt constant quite quickly, and that was when we went to hospital. I failed to recognise transition until afterwards - I threw up and then said to DH that I'd had enough! But it was okay really. It took another half hour or so before I said I thought we should go to hospital, so it can't have been that bad! I was 9cm on admission.

Best of luck for a comfortable birth! Smile
