I found my rubber ring invaluable !! MWs don't recommend them but I couldn't sit down without it ! Got it in Boots - dh had to ask for it at pharmacy counter.

Also - friend gave me big box of salt for bath - not sure if it helped a lot - but may be worth a try. Didn't find the Feme thing very good - was so cold it hurt !

Someone recommended putting witchhazel on panty liners and keeping them in fridge - then put them on top of maternity pads - sounds soothing !

You can get Arnica bath soak from QVC (by SBC) - haven't tried it myself but sounds good.

For the piles I had Anusol - was OK - think it has a mild anaesthetic in. Other than all that - I had strong painkillers from hospital !

Hope This Helps - Poor SIL - It really does hurt !

ouch ! I used a neck cushion, like you'd have for travelling, to try to sit more comfortably. If she has stitches too then would recommend a squeezy bottle filled with clean cool water to squirt from front to back each time she goes for a wee, then pat dry gently with toilet paper - perhaps she could add a few drops of tea tree oil. Also arnica, taken in tablet form will help with any bruising and swelling.

I found sitting on a packet of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel very soothing - this was around day four too - day four and five were the worst and then it gradually got better.

Similar to the peas idea you could get a large sports gel pack and chill it then wrap it up so she could sit on it.
