I am expecting dc4 in September.I have been reading about lotus births which i like the sound of,and also other ideas, like burying it under a tree or even eating,or having made into capsules for the menopause?
I didn't do anything with the other babies placentas but now i know i can i kind of feel like ill be wasting it if i don't!

why not try these delicious sounding recipes?

It's not for me personally! After DC2 the midwife showed us my placenta and went into great detail about it's function and condition, apparently it was an excellent one . But looking was enough for me.

We donated DD2's placenta, umbilical cord and cord blood to medical research at the hospital. The research was for cancer and heart disease. I'm really proud that we did that :)

At the beginning of my career I remember having to save them for collection by Oil of Ulay.

I'm going to learn to encapsulate them and do my own. IPEN do DIY kits to buy or hire, or you can get a pro to do it for you.

Cuddler · 22/05/2012 14:43

yes i saw someone who encapsulates them, was quite expensive though, think it was £150!

That sounds about average. The hire kit from IPEN (that includes all the steaming and dehydrating equipment) is still £95, but you can buy the capsules to do your own, with instructions on how to do it at home using your oven etc for less than £20 IIRC. It's not a particularly quick process though, which is probably why it is so pricey (along with training, equipment and all the hygiene stuff that goes with doing this sort of thing for other people)
