Could a vomiting bug kick start labour earlier than expected?

Was violently suck last night 2/3 times (had to sit on the loo and vom in a bucket as it was so violent I kept wetting myself - tmi) I now have lower back ache and tummy ache and regular braxton hicks. All I want to do is sleep and I haven't eaten anything all day. I don't think I've got the energy to have a baby later today. I am starting to panic. Is this the start of something or am I aching from being ill?

Poor thing. At 39 weeks of course it could be labour, I'd ring the hospital for advice.
Is DP with you? How about some Lucozade (or Bananas/Apple Sauce/Rice/Toast as per the WHO if you can manage to keep it down).

And rest as much as you can while you can.

A tummy bug can set things off - stomach/intestines get irritable and cramping can start cramps/contractions in the uterus (this is the effect castor oil can have).

The body purging itself can also be a sign that labour is starting.

I woul suggest trying to get some rest and keeping hydrated as much as possible and if you have any worries call your MW/maternity triage number.

I went into premature labour at 29 weeks with DD#2. It all stopped thankfully and I carried to term. But the dr at the time did say that if you get something like this then quite often the body will try to protect the baby by getting it out!

Sounds like could be start of labour for sure.

Sorry meant to say I had food poisoning at time which started it off.

One of my friends got norovirus at 38 weeks and had her baby within 48 hours. The doctors thought labour had been triggered by the v&d. Both she & the baby are now fine but were isolated when in hospital.

Thank you so much- by DH is with me (we both had the sicknessSad ) I'm trying to keep hydrated, can't really face eating anything- just worried that I feel zapped of energy before things have really begun. Have been in bed all day in a bid to be as less active as possible and try and catch up on sleep. Thank you for your helpful posts

I had monstrous D&V at 37 weeks and it set contractions off. I was terrified as I was too exhausted to go through labour. Contractions stopped and I went to 40+5.

Good luck

I had one at 39 weeks after being violently sick the day before thanks to some ABs I'd been given. That was a fast labour (2.5hrs start to finish), not as fast as SIL who had major sickness bug and had baby in 45mins start to finish! I'd say be prepared...

I had a sickness & diarrhoea bug at about 37.5 weeks and it didnt bring me on in labour (DC2)
