Cone biopsy and home birth?

Hi,
Pregnant with DC2 and very excited. Had booking in appointment with GP during the week and she mentioned that she had to "flag up" to the midwifery team she was referring me to, that I'd had a cone biopsy a few months ago. I asked if this would affect my chances of a natural birth/home birth and she wouldn't give me a straight answer, but wasn't terribly encouraging. Am now really worried that the biopsy will preclude having a home/natural/vaginal birth! Can anyone set my mind at rest? Anyone had a cone biopsy and then had a home birth? Or a vaginal birth at a midwife led unit? Or does it automatically mark me as high risk and send me to consultant care? Won't be seeing the midwives for WEEKS so any experiences would be helpful in stopping me stressing out completely about this! TIA

I haven't had the cone biopsy, but I did have the LEEPs procedure after my first child and have just delivered twins vaginally, no problem. Even took them to term so not even the hint of going into labour early, which I had worried about.

I don't see any reason for it to preclude you from a home and/or vaginal birth. I think they sometimes worry about going into labour early, but as far as I can remember from my first birth, as long as you hit 37 weeks you can go ahead with a home birth...HTH

Also remember that consultant care doesnt stop you having a homebirth. It is the reason for consultant care - tbh I'm not sure what you are talking about but you could be under a consultant who decides it doesnt pose a risk for homebirth. I ended up under a consultant with DD2 but still met criteria for homebirth midwife did look a bit nervous and asked if I'd discussed it with him lol.

Of course if you disagree then you can challenge and insist on homebirth anyway.... I probably wouldnt do this but others on here have.

Thanks for the replies! Phoned the clinic where I had the procedure and they explained it was a LLETZ and have arranged for me to speak to the doctor who conducted it next week. They were really nice about it! She can go through my notes with me and give an indication of how much was removed etc. and provide assurances/advice to me/midwife re potential implications. All looking a bit brighter and now ahve MW appointment scheduled too so won't be long before I can find out one way or the other. Phew...

Great news - I had similar and as I said, it had no effect on my twin pregnancy. Good luck with the pregnancy.

I had a cone biopsy after LLETZ and was able to have a vaginal birth. I had to be induced due to meconium in waters so was in the delivery suite not MLU as planned. It will have to be flagged as there is a risk that your cervix won't dilate properly due to scar tissue but that's the only reason and it's a small risk. Good luck with getting your homebirth!

Hi, I had LLETZ and delivered vaginally 2 days ago. My midwife wasn't even concerned when I told her and it caused no issues for us. Smile
