im due with DC2 on Monday.

I had a fast delivery with DD 18m ago. I'm geting quite nervous now as I have difficult personal circumstances. but also If they say labour progresses more efficiently/quicker - how will my body react again? I had a pph 1000mls after the plaenta came, due to bigbaby, and possibly te speed/intensity of labour. what if the sae happens? i also had 2nd degree tear, i guess this is more likely too if the labour could be faster?
I was 1cm dilated on Wednesday. cervix is 0.5cm thick and open. bh's are frequent and stong and also getting shooting pains on and off (especially in the evenings) when baby moves it sends the shooting pains down there and up my backside?! and i feel like i have to clench my butt cheeks togethr!

Sorry for poor typing. this laptop has had its day think!!

I had a speedy labour first time (2.20hrs in total from first sign to birth) and a SUPER speedy second time (less than an hour from waking up with a gripey tum to birth Grin). 2nd degree tear both times. Both pretty manageable in terms of pain, g & a only (with first - no time for anything at all with second)

I'd say be ready for a very fast delivery and perhaps ask your midwife for a home birth kit if appropriate?

I've been advised not to have home birth due to pph & possible recurrence :/

2nd birth consisted of one strong contraction out the blue at 3pm and baby was delivered at 3:43 eak! Just made it to hospital.
Needed iv antiobiotics but didn't have time for these, midwife in such a flap she didnt get cord blood for matching either, poor lady!

Don't hang about is nmy only advice! Good luck x

Would an option be to break your waters if you are dilated and ready to go??

how fast is fast?

tbh a homebirth would be safer than delivering by the side of the road and it wouldn't hurt to have stuff there just in case.

Littlerayofsunshine · 19/05/2012 16:53

I just have no idea what to do :s

Will be going straight to the hospital when it starts just
Incase it does was to be fast. I had DD within under 2hrs of getting
To hospital.

that's not so bad, how long were you in labour before you went in?

Littlerayofsunshine · 19/05/2012 19:45

1.5ish hours

Hi op. I had similar experience to you with dd1 - v quick labour second degre tear and pph? I ended up having a blood transfusion and was all q traumatic? Dd2 was born 15 months later! The labour was v quick again and she was Ron approx 2.5 hours after arriving at hospital but I didn't tear and although I did had morale Gain the team was prepared and I was immediately out on a synth inn drip which stopped the bleeding? She was born at 5am and I was home by 5pm that night. All in all I can say the birth of dd2 was a v good happy experience despite pph a whereas was traumatic and complicated with dd1. Ood luck!

i think as long as you go to hospital as soon as you know you're in labour you'll be ok.

but like i say, i think it would be wise for the midwife to prepare you for a homebirth anyway, just in case you realise you aren't going to make it.

ds3 was born 48 minutes after i woke up having contractions. i KNEW I wouldn't have made it to the hospital. thankfully he was a planned homebirth anyway, but if he hadn't been i wouldn't even have attempted to get to hospital.

in my areas they don't give a pack out, but some places do. and even if yours don't it would be wise to read up on what happens during a precipitous (fast) labour and how you can be prepared.
if you think you can't make it to hospital then call an ambulance straight away

for what it's worth i had a biggish pph and a second degree tear with my first, but nothing with either of my others, who were both faster

That sounds reassuring then :)

Yeah the plan is for me to get to the hospital as soon as I feel its the real deal. I just hope my body gives me warning, with DD it pretty much just..happened :s
