It's my first. Just a little bit terrified! Am thinking of choosing Chelsea and Westminster which is my nearest hospital. Does anyone know what it's like? Can anyone recommend it? I would really appreciate feedback. S.

Me too...due Sept 18th...any comments would be gratefully received!!

Not personally but have 3 friends who have given birth there.

1st has had 3 straight forward deliveries, has no complaints.

2nd had a great 1st delivery and an ELCS for twins for her 2nd delivery, also has no complaints.

3rd (and most recent) had a fairly quick delivery with a bad tear (they were deciding if it was 2nd or 3rd degree,so had lots of different staff coming to have a look..) but thereafter felt she was left alone in labour ward not knowing if she was still bleeding etc and was quite scared etc. Also said she didn't get much help in the postnatal ward though that seems to be the experience of most hospitals,it would seem

Hope that helps, think 5 good out of 6 is better than most - good luck,it's an amazing journey!!

5 out of 6 not bad at all. Thanks for the feedback.

Gave birth in august, Labour I could forget but staff are generally lovely. Terrible food! I recommend u pack 2 days worth of food in your labour bag.

I had my second at Chelsea and Westminster in January, midwife was brilliant, had an amazing birth. Post natal ward was good though I was only there about 12 hours. Would definitely have my third there.

Billy11 · 20/05/2012 22:55

we have private health insurance so never looked in to the nhs at c and w...also dont think my elcs would have been approved by nhs for spd related issues
i know my consultant who is lovely also delivers in the nhs part of cw
my nearest are kinston and west middlsex hosp
heard reaaly positive stuff from close friends deliverin in west middx

I have had two babies (both EMCS), my first at C&W in 2009 and my second 11 weeks ago at Queen Charlottes. I found the staff much more approachable at QC and their post-natal ward was much cleaner, quieter which much more supportive and friendly staff.

Billy11 · 21/05/2012 00:16

i think it all depends on how busy it is and who is there on the day ..
my friend had a baby 4 weeks back at queen charlotte...and lets just say it was appaulin the way she was treated....really really appaulin.
not only did the staff make mistakes resultin in her bein critical and faintin in labour.....there was a shortaje of staff ....i can tell the full story if anyones intersted but wont put you off as it is the only time ive heard somethin bad bout queen charlotte

.i had previously heard its the best hospital for maternity

I had my baby girl at chelwest and it has great. Lots of complications, but they were well handled. I was totally fed up of the postnatal ward after 4 days, but I think that would have been the case anywhere.
