Was looking for an insight into what happens really and whether they try and push you for a natural birth????

I wasn't but seeing as #1 was ELCS by maternal choice they probably realised it was a losing battle :)

No, never heard of a vbac clinic... Then again they didn't need to convince me Smile

At my hospital I have been for a choices "discussion" with the MW where they pushed VBAC then I have a meeting with the consultant at 34 weeks to decide. I think I get offered counselling if I really want a c-section.

I've made it clear that I definately want a c-section but they are insisting that I attend this class. It's really frustrating when they give you a choice and then wont accept your decision once you've made it.

As I was leaving hospital after my third section, I was given leaflets saying that all women who have had sections will be referred to the vbac clinic. How ridiculous. They then sent me a questionnaire asking for info about infections post section - I refused to complete it as I recognised the midwife's name and knew they were planning to use collated info to push women into vbac. I think some women want a section, some women want to try for vbac and they should just leave us alone!

Theres another thread running at the moment about what anxiety counselling for some requesting an ELCS entails. I wanted to mention it, here as well as its in a similar vein and my point on that thread was about how a lot of women were so suspicious of counselling because they felt it wasn't counselling but it was a way of effectively trying to push or bullying women into a vb when they were strongly against it.

Whether or not it is true, is completely irrelevant. The mere fact that women lack that much trust and they do not feel they are being listened to is nothing short of outrageous.

Its damaging as in cases were proper counselling is needed and would be of benefit women are more likely to either refuse or go into it with a mindset that its not about their interests but about the hospitals policy or individual midwives ideological preferences.

Its wrong if too many cs are being done. But its also wrong to bully women into a vb too. If the perception is that is the case, then a lot of people need to start working a hell of a lot harder to change that and to realise how much distress this is causing to a lot of people quite needlessly.

I requested a CS for DD2s birth as I damaged my tailbone during the 2-hr pushing phase of DD1s birth.

Saw the OB at 20 weeks who frightened the bejesus out if us with what can go wrong with CS, whilst saying that mode of delivery wouldn't make a difference to my spine. He provisionally agreed only if I saw a Consultant Midwife. She said that it would be a 'shame to cut into my uterus' if it was unnecessary. It all completely undermined what I'd been through first time.

I saw an independent chiropractor who said that a VB was much more likely to damage my tailbone again. I spoke with a physio who said that if I was concerned about my back, then a CS would avoid doing more damage.

The OB agreed in the end but I was just made to feel awful about wanting a CS for the reason I'd stated. They tell you that you have a choice but they throw a lot at you to convince you that a VB is the way to go.

For the record, my back is no worse after the CS :) I feel strongly that I would be suffering with it now if I had gone with VB.

I had a cs with DD1 only after them trying to induce me three times over the space of three days... It was awful. They then decided in the middle of the night to do the cs after all.
Now they are saying that because of previous cs you're limited as to what type of VB you can have for fear of your scar rupturing and also they will only let you go for so long before doing a cs anyway! I really don't understand the logic in it at all.
I think if they offer you a choice that your decision should just be accepted, otherwise dont offer the choice in the first place!!!
