Bathing after a c section

My daughter had a c section 10 days ago and has been told by a health visitor she is not allowed to have a bath for 6 weeks. Has any one any experience of this ?

I was in for 3 nights after my csections, I had 2 of them. I had a bath each day while I was in hospital.

What they did advise was no long soaks in the bath. But get in, get washed, get out, is fine.

good grief! have had 4 sections. showers in hospital but as soon as I got home I had a bath! wonderful

It's fine to bath. She needs to pat her wound dry afterwards carefully (no hair driers!)

I was told to have salt baths and use a hair dryer on cold to dry my scar. 3 weeks in I am healing really well. I also use the hair dryer in the middle of the night when I wake up sweating.

I don't think I would have been able to lower/raise myself out of the bath safely or confidently after my ELCS 4 weeks ago (at least for the first 10-14 days).

My first bath was last Friday, so 3 weeks and 1 day post section (more to do with getting some time to myself to enable a bath). I didn't submerge myself but did fan water over my scar and carefully patted it dry once I gently raised myself out! It was lovely; I used lavender oil in the water :)

To be really honest, HV's really piss me off - I'm sure there are some really wonderful ones out there but the ones I've met have literally given me the headache. IME, some of their advice totally contradicts stuff I've been told by midwives. MoaningMinnie's advice sounds just about right to me, at least until any scabbing has fallen away.

Congratulations on your new grandchild! Thanks x

I had emsc in march. They get you to have a shower after 16 hrs or something like that. But whether you can/can't have a bath was never mentioned to me

I had baths. Was told to by mw to help dissolve the stitches! I used to put 5 drops of Lavender oil and 5 drops of tea tree oil in and it was bliss. This was a tip from a wonderful MW after I had the worst extended episiotomy with DD1 (& way more external stitches than after elcs!). Salt is very drying although a good antiseptic. Tea tree is better. Lavender is just so relaxing! This mix also helped heal my v sore nipples.

Congratulations on your new grandchild.

I had a shower the morning after DD was born. No baths where we lived (Oman). I imagine the HV was concerned about getting in and out rather than the water TBH. What odd advice.

Agree with rips: I also think that the HV has taken the 6-week driving exclusion a bit too far ... I mean, about driving: if your OB says it's okay and your insurance company agree, you can even drive before 6 weeks then!
