Yeah, am 38 weeks and not enjoying the feeling of being booted in the cervix. Ow.

PestoPenguin · 14/05/2012 23:21

Yes, I remember last time feeling like my cervix was being clawed at by a mild animal.

I have to say this time the kicks in that region are quite painful now at only 28 weeks Shock

yeah, i'm only 34 weeks and the last few days baby has really hurt me. not my cervix but it's like he/she is trying to claw/kick her way out of the bump. stops me in my tracks. never had this with DS and he was big, although this baby is slightly bigger and 6.5lbs already.

Littlerayofsunshine · 15/05/2012 13:57

Yeah I just feel like it's trying to push out. and the movements can be quite painful especially when sitting down. like shoots upwards and up my backside?!

Then it sets off into a strong tightening.

MW tomorrow, so may ask her for internal to see if anything is happening (early labour) as 3 weeks ago my cervix was already soft/ripe...so?

no idea. but its been geting more intense this week. as in the frequency too.

To be honest, and I don't want to rain on your parade, it may not be connected to labour and could just be the baby running out of room. I have been getting painfully kicked in the fanjo for weeks now and am trying not to swear too much in front of DS. But it is miserable when you want to meet your baby so much and feel really dreadful (or just massive and fed up), isn't it?

I am a massive weirdo because secretly I actually want to go a week overdue as I am trying to buy a house and startfinish writing an essay for my course...

Littlerayofsunshine · 15/05/2012 18:13

I know this sounds silly. But at 39+1 weeks. Me feeling the baby
Move in a more intense way. Does this mean its running out of room
And fed up of being squished, OR that its still actually got room
To move? Its still head down and 3/5th.. May have changed at mw appt
Tomorrow. She's offered a sweep too but I'm not sure :s
I had 2 with dd and she came a week later at 40+5

With DC3 this became really intense from around 37 weeks onwards I found. V uncomfortable at times, and frequent runs of braxton hicks. I got quite concerned baby would be early. Ha! It was born at 40+9.

People's opinions split on sweeps. Personally, I like to avoid all internal exams. I don't want someone shoving their hand up there and I'm more of the school of thought that babies come when they're ready and 'encouraging' them out early might not be the best idea. If you didn't opt for a sweep, but just an examination, I'm not sre what this would tell you in all honesty. Cervixes change rapidly. In second and subsequent pregnancies it can be normal to be a couple of cm dilated for days or more before labour starts. Equally, a posterior clamped shut cervix can move forward and open very rapidly (hours) once labour begins. Even in labour cervixes can dilate at v different rates. 1cm per hour or 2cm per hour can be meaningless, as it's not necessarily a linear process. People can take days to go from 0-5cm and then give birth an hour later. Equally, sometimes labour slows, or the whole thing is over from start to finish in a couple of hours.

The waiting is hard, especially when you're uncomfy, but labour will come when the baby's ready. After all, it's the baby that starts labour off Smile.

openerofjars · 15/05/2012 20:23

^ What she said.

Plus, I heard that a sweep is only going to work if your cervix is ready anyway i.e. it won't be that effective if you're not already ready to go.

GetTheeToANunnery · 15/05/2012 20:32

I got awful pains in late pregnancy with ds. He loved pushing his head right down onto my pelvic bone and it would send shooting pains right up me. Tightening around your stomach if often mild braxton hicks. Best off asking MW if you're unsure though.

Littlerayofsunshine · 16/05/2012 17:29

Had a sweep. 1cm dilated .Cervix 1/2cm thick, still posterior.(At this stage DD was 1cm thick) But she said baby half down birth canal. Its basically the same as my notes when I had one 3 days before I had DD. She said its great that my body has done what its doing so far. So the sweep may be completely irrelevant as my body's doing it slowly
