I am due to have an ELCS at Bedford Hospital and I was wondering if anyone else had delivered there. What was the care like? Do they give painkillers etc? Thank you

I had DS there in Dec 09, they were great. No problems at all. Really good care. I too had an ELCS due to breech presentation. The staff in theatre were really friendly, and put me at ease, were lovely to DH, and were great making sure that baby was given to me asap. As for recovery on the ward they were very attentive, quick with pain meds etc. Getting discharged was slower, but it was late on a friday night & the hold-up was with pharmacy waiting for the meds to come home. No bad experience to report, from me! Good luck!!!!

My DD arrived last month at 34 weeks, I had her at Bedford Hospital (normal but not very straightforward delivery) and had quite a long stay there as she was admitted to the neonatal unit and I wasn't well for a few days afterwards. I found that overall the staff on both the postnatal and neonatal wards were excellent, very kind and caring. Everything was explained to us before and after the delivery. I felt we were really well looked after and the hospital almost started to feel like home (though obviously I was really relieved when we were discharged!). There did seem to be times when the postnatal ward was particularly busy and getting pain relief could be a little bit slower than I would have liked but overall I'd really recommend Bedford.
