2nd induction - will hypnobirthing help??

hello - I'm due to be induced for the 2nd time tomorrow (ws convinced i would go naturally). My 1st was 2yrs ago and induced at 41.5w - took 7hrs from contractions to out, with all drugs available. I would love to avoid drugs.

Anyone else been induced twice and tried the hypnobirthing breathing??? I'm crap at the visualisation? How long did your induction take?? Any advice greatfully received - I'm bricking it:( Would love to stay off the epidural purely as i want to be out as soon as i can - scared of the pain as no idea cos of drugs last time.

Many thanks

Don't worry :), spend today just rethinking it, it's so easy with so much negative hype about induction to worry and get worked up, which as you know goes against yur body....but if you rethink it that for some women our babies do need a kick start to start their journey, now just because you are going to be induced, you can still be in control, for a start once they have checked how favourable yu are they will either go gel or pessary or if you are very favourable they may go straight to breaking waters...if it's gel or pessary you are going to have about 5 hours being left to wait and see, this is the stage to visualise and be as active as you can....it's so easy to sit down and relax at this stage as it feels like nothing is happening....but walk, walk, walk, up and down stairs, ask for a birth ball and do figure of 8 rotations etc etc and visualise your baby coming down to meet you, and lots of relaxing in your mind, telling your body and baby you are ready...the next stage will probably be waters breaking, things then usually crank up at this stage they tend to give you a bit of set time to get going before they start mentioning the drip, but from the outset ask how long before the waters and the drip and stay very active, showers rather than a bath as the bath can slow you down....and hopefully with your previous 7hrs which is quick you will get to 10 at this stage....now even if you end up with the drip, your body being number 2 will react quickly so you can avoid lots of drugs, and if you do have the drip you will then need monitoring but you can still be on the ball, knees etc, if they say but you need to be on the monitor they can move it as you move position....

The best thing that helped me was a playlist on my iPod, with induction there is so much waiting and I had a really upbeat playlist to keep me moving, dancing etc and to block out the medical world around me...and a calmer playlist for later....

The best of luck, be in control, be positive that you know tomorrow it's all happening and be confident to view it as a kick start then you will labour yourself.....

Just adding my two quick birth stories to back up above....;

Ds1 - induction, pessary nothing happened so straight to drip, no pain relief then all cranked up got stuck about 4cm...had gas and air they cranked up the drip....ended up epidural, but had calm pushing stage and 40 mins pushing ds1 was born....

23 months later....

Ds2 - went in for induction, had iPod ready, much more in control, positive and confident about labour, had the gel for 5 hours during which I walked, climbed the stairs and used visualisations, I told them things were progressing, stayed pain relief free during 0-5 by distraction, showers etc, they then broke my waters at 6pm the pain picked up so intense I felt it could nt get more, stayed in the shower then had a bath, at 7.30, the midwife started saying you will need the drip if you don't start progressing, I'm finishing at 8 so what do you want to do etc...I said I think the baby is close, I won't need the drip etc...but in regards to pain relief I said I was done so we agreed on pethidone, she examined me at 7.40 I was apparently 5cm...she left to get the pethidone, during which my body started pushing, she came back was asking my dob for the injection, just before she gave it she said your pushing, I said yes just give me that jab, she said too late, babies coming....and at 8.00 he was born with gas and air, which I had to stop myself taking in the end as I was feeling so out of it....

But two inductions and two different experiences....best of luck and even if it goes a different route, focus on the outcome of meeting your number 2 xxxx
