My friend has just had twins and is now home with them both. I'm too far away to do anything practical like take meals round so i thought next best thing was to do an internet shop for them, so i can have some helpful and nice things delivered. She's BFing both babies so is going to need lots of energy!. its been a while since i had a newborn and all i can remember is eating loads of cake....
i've added a bottle of bubbly, cake (obviously), pizza, - any more essential items i'm missing??? ideas please!

I did the same thing for a mate Smile

She's a very healthy girl normally, so as well as the cake, I went for: nice teas; high energy snacks (posh nuts/dried fruit/flapjack type bars); nice drinks (bf made me very thirsty); cheese and biscuits (esp the sorts you can't have when pg) - basically quick snacks for when you don't want to cook properly - plus a few jars of posh pesto & nice pasta for speedy meal making.

Grapes and other non prep fruit is good for nibbling. Chocolate brownies. Insulated cup for coffee.

Good quality ready meals for easy and quick food, I prefer veggie ones as am doubtful of the meat quality in supermarket meals so spinach canneloni, veg lasagne, maybe a fish pie?

My dh went to our deli after I just gave birth, and bought 'nibbles' like cheese and crackers, olives, artichokes, pate, smoked salmon, etc, that I could go to the fridge and pick at with no effort, and as he had to go straight back to work it was a godsend.

Does she have older children too? For me, having low-effort things to give the older ones made life so much easier, so stews, fishcakes, lasagnes that friends brought round were so much appreciated.

You're doing a lovely thing!

What a nice friend you are. After I had DS1, my DP's work send us a hamper full of things you can't eat or drink when you are pregnant (cheeses, deli meats, booze, pate) and lovely chocolates. It was possibly the best gift I ever received and I got pregnant with DS2 just so they would send another one. Wink

I stockpiled those individually wrapped chocolate brioche thingies. Bananas are also good instant healthy food. Expensive 'posh' squash and lovely fruit juices, and of course, a small bottle of wine (screw top) for when it gets all too much to cope with.

That's a lovely idea. Flapjacks kept me going, as recommended by the lovely midwives on the maternity ward. Thought of asking for them on prescription...

Precut fruits such as melon slices, mango & pineapple. Nice soups that can go in a cup & partbake rolls.
