Want to avoid induction tomorrow...

Waters broke overnight and due to be induced tomorrow if labour doesn't start spontaneously. Keen to avoid the induction if possible. Anyone got any experience of this? Any suggestions for getting labour going once waters have gone? Have had a couple of minor twinges and a show since coming home, but nothing else... Thanks

Sounds like things are starting on there own Smile, speak to your midwife, they may hold off the induction to see how you go.
Hopefully someone with more experience will be along.
Good luck and get walking that helps Smile

Agree.. walking is meant to help. Sounds like things are kicking off!
That fount of knowledge Wink 'Baby Centre' says- 'About nine out of 10 women, who are at least 37 weeks pregnant, give birth naturally within 24-48 hours of their waters breaking.'
Good luck with everything.

Thanks. Still no contractions. Trying to keep moving around as much as possible, but proving quite tricky with my leakage situation Blush....

Winnie, I was in the exact same situation as you just over two weeks ago. My waters broke in the middle of the night. Went to triage to get checked out. They confirmed that my waters had broken and I was booked in for induction at 8.30 next morning if I hadn't went naturally by then. To cut a long story short, I was having twinges around the same time of day that you are now. I think I probably started having proper contractions at about 4/5 0'clock but I wasn't thoroughly convinced I was because they were totally bearable. I remember I did a lot of bouncing about on birthing ball and drinking Raspberry leaf tea (old wives tale, I know, but it made me feel better). Anyhoo, I had DS in my arms by 6.15 o'clock in the morning. I hope it's the same for you. It certainly sounds like things are starting. :)

Also, I was leaking all over the place too :)

My friend's waters broke and she was induced a couple of days later. It went quickly for her, however. Hopefully you won't need it, but if you do I'm sure it won't drag too much. Good luck :)

Of course, if you're showing no signs of infection and baby is moving well then you don't have to be induced after 24 hours, you can 'wait and see' if you want.

Billy11 · 06/05/2012 16:47

Although my water didnt break...i did go in to labour having contractions eveyr 3 mins...for hours then nothing for hours....went on for three days...my body was confused and didnt know what to do ..so i loved being induced...
still took 28 hours....but was a very positive labour ...
only 4 mins of pushing once 10 cm dialated....

wouldnt just avoid it...specially once your water is broken its quite important to get the baby out

Have you had an internal exam? If not, then waiting and watching is an option for quite a long time (longer than 24hrs) subject to careful monitoring of your temperature and looking out for other signs of infection.

NICE guidelines state: "Women with prelabour rupture of membranes at term (at or over 37 weeks) should be offered a choice of induction of labour with vaginal PGE2[3] or expectant management."

These are the more detailed NICE guidelines on the options you should be offered

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words. DC1 with grandparents for the night and I'm bouncing on the exercise ball whilst eating chocolate digestives Grin. Come on baby!

griphook · 06/05/2012 21:26

Actually just meant up the stairs it's safer

Flisspaps · 06/05/2012 22:30

Just walk up the stairs? Confused

PestoPenguin · 08/05/2012 13:42

Any news OP?

My waters broke on a wednesday but managed to put off being induced until the sunday. Had to go to the hospital every day to be monitored and checked for any sign of infection (100 mile round trip). Being induced was not the most fun i've ever had but i felt i'd given my body every chance to do it on it's own and it didn't (did try raspberry tea, curries, etc). I don't know if you can put it off any longer than this - the risk of infection was made very clear to me, plus I was already past my due date when waters broke. Fingers crossed for you that it all happens naturally, but if it doesn't, it's not the end of the world - good luck.
