Weight loss 5 days after delivery

Hello,

firstly, I'm not obsessed with my weight, just curious!

I've given birth on Tuesday by CS and have not lost any weight at all. It's not that I've lived on 3000kcl the last few days plus I'm bfeeding. I certainly still look like 7 months pregnant and I've got quite a bit of water in my legs, my hands are almost back to normal, can't wait to put my wedding band back on again.

Just wondering how you were doing? At the end, baby and placenta and blood should come up to 10lbs easy.

Thali

My water retention took weeks and weeks to clear completely - I had a lot of swelling before the birth and it was a very very gradual deflation. I have no idea how much I weighed 5 days after delivery (also c-section) but I definitely looked pregnant still.

I would give it a good 6 weeks before you weigh yourself again - I was still not approaching normal until at least 6 weeks after birth. And not back to pre-preg weight until about 3 weeks ago (DD is 2 this month) Blush - but that's cos I'm greedy. Oink.

Think I lost best part of a stone from delivery, but your body's all over the place at that stage - lots of extra blood, womb, huge boobs, etc. If you can see you have more fluid on your legs that' probably why - would mention it to the midwife.

if you had a drip (and i assume you did if you had a CS), i've heard it can take several weeks for the extra water to dissipate into your system.

I weighed myself after a few days and had only lost 10lb - bear in mind the twins were combined nearly 14lb so was gutted!!! At 3 weeks after I had lost in total 3.5 stone so give it chance :-)

OMG darling, please give yourself a break! It is seriously early days and all these other posters have wise words, give yourself lots of time to get back to normal and don't worry.
It's true getting back to normal weight/ figure etc takes 1yr minimum and def more like 2 for some.
I never lost the last stone in fact but came to like my slightly different body post baby.
True I am stressing a bit myself about being huge again(second baby due in July) but the other part of my mind is determined to not even think about getting back in shape until bubba 2 is at least 9 months old.
Someone once described to me that physical and mental changes take as long to reverse so if you are preggo for 9 months you need at least as long to take the return journey back!
Be good to yourself and bf-ing helps get you back on track too, this is an amazing time when just had your first so don't be dstracted from enjoying it SmileSmile

It was two weeks after my CS before my feet finally deflated! DD is 9 weeks now and I'd say about 3/4 of the weight steadily dropped over the first 4-6 weeks... I've got about 10lb to go to pre-pregnancy weight and this last bit is not as easy to shift!

Maiziemonkey · 05/05/2012 22:45

Oh my daisies give yourself a break! Takes ages to get back to normal, but you will eventually.
I never lost last stone in the end but came to like my slightly different body.
You may not get "your" body back but you get A body back. BF-ing will help too.
You've done fantastic so enjoy the special time now and be good to yourself.
Give yourself at least 9 months until you want things to start to change, might happen sooner but for many it takes as long for the "return journey" which is what your bod has been on, a journey.
Where you go next - who knows but it is undiscovered country, hope you enjoy the adventure.
It is totally normal to still look preggo for a while, don't worry.Smile

Thanks very much, sounds about right and normal. Funny how sometimes "expectations" get in the way of reality. I'll mention it to the MW anyway just in case there is something else going on or wearing different compression socks helps.

Actually love spending the day in my PJs so far and being pampered by hubby with love food (= made with love not necessarily vegetable based) :)

I weighed 6 kg less after a week ...including loss of baby weight and water weight...but the rest of the 10 kg took 2 years

TransatlanticCityGirl · 08/05/2012 23:17

My numbers just didn't add up at first...

I gained 35lbs in pregnancy, delivered at 42+2 by EMCS to a baby weighing just under 10lbs. When I weighed myself 3 days after birth, I had only lost 7 or 8 lbs (so I was still 27lbs up on my pre-pregnancy weight). I was thinking WTF?!?!?!?!?

However after 2 weeks I had lost all but 8 lbs without trying. That last 8 lbs took me something like another 4-6 weeks to completely come off.
