Those of you who had a CSection were you sent home with Painkillers??

I am about to have my third c section on tuesday and I have just been told by the midwife that it is now the hospitals policy not to send women home with painkillers after a csection. For my last two i was sent home with 10 days worth of two different types of painkillers (codeine and something else) which i took for the ten days. I am pretty worried about coming out of hospitla with no pain relief - she advised me to stock up on paracetamol (which in my experience will no way cut it!). She also said that the last four women she saw post natally had to go to emergency out of hours gp to get painkillers on prescription once home. I just wanted to find out if this is normal policy for other hospitals, and if anyone has managed with just parcetamol after a section!

And i can only think pts will make mistakes and easily overdose if they are not discharged with medication and given clear instructions about when to take it. I know at OOH many dental pts get so desperate that they accidentally overdose on pain relief.

I was sent home with enough Diclofenic to get me through a month or so.
Sending you home with nothing seems completely out of order.

yes, I got a week's worth of Co-dydramol and it saved my sanity and got me through the bad days after an EMCS.

I had a mobile epi for 4 days post op and was sent home with 2 weeks voltarol and 2 weeks co-drydamol. I had zero pain post op and was driving again by day 10. Thank god for private obstetric services if this is what you get on the NHS! I would be demanding pain relief and refusing to leave without a script frankly!

Wow squiby , I didn't realise that there would be such a difference in care .

Hi sorry not posted managed to get a bloody stomach bug over the weekend - just what you need 3 days before a c section! anyway, to answer question I'm at the Rosie which is part of Addenbrookes in Cambridge. I had my last two sections there and they were great, have to admit to being really worried about it all, but i think i'm going to have to phone my gp's and get a prescription sorted before i leave the hospital!! ridiculous, but seems the only answer! can't stand pain - bit of a wimp really!
