C-Section Scar - which oil/ cream?

I'm going to have a c-s soon (booked in for Tuesday but not sure I've we can make it).

I hate taking a bath so using drops tea tree oil in it is out andI am wondering if Tea Tree Cream is the next best thing? If not, what have you used and when have you started rubbing/ massaging your scar?

Thanks, Thali

Nothing special, just normal body moisturiser. I think I even avoided the scar area until it was healed.

I didn't use anything - I just exposed it to the air as much as possible (and air dried it after showers - I'm not a fan of baths so never took them!). I'd worry that rubbing anything in would increase risk of infection!

I had no infections or pain during healing and my scar is hard to see now. In fact any HCP who's seen it (have had a second DC now) has remarked how neat it is (which is down to how well I was stitched up initially).

I had bad infection the second time. Lots of air like everyone says and clean or slightly salty water.
Wait until it has healed properly before you put anything on it unless it is prescribed.
Good luck!

I left mine well alone but I have heard that salty baths good for keeping it clean. Clean underwear obviously(!) and just leaving well alone unless it looks infected is probably the best approach.

I was prescribed a silicone gel product called Scarsil. I started using it a couple of weeks after the op and am still using it now. My scar's nice and flat and is starting to fade. I do have problematic skin so I don't know how it would have healed if left alone, or what impact this product would have on normal skin. It was recommended to me by a dermatologist, so hopefully isn't snake oil!

Finding this thread really helpful, thanks OP and ladies who have answered :) Had DD2 last Thursday (19th) by ELCS (second baby, first section).

My scar is dry and healing well so far (touch wood!) but the surrounding area is bruised, swollen (obviously) and the scar itself is slightly puckered. I have dissolvable stitches. Consultant said that my skin (and tissues too, apparently) are stretchier than normal. Just wondering whether puckering goes down, or if there's anything I can do do minimise the appearance of this once it's fully healed, like certain creams like OP asked, or even surgical tape over it? (I know of people who have had cosmetic surgery and have used said tape to flatten the scar down). Thanks!

Not wanting to hijack thread, but anyone on here with experience of keloid scarring? Have got it from my first CS and due a second CS in 10 weeks, have never shown scar to anyone or mentioned it and wondering if it will be an issue in the op?
