DC3 is due in 9 weeks and I want to get started on my birth plan so it is done and I can talk to the MW about it.

I am planning a homebirth in a birth pool. I would like to try and use hypno birthing and gas and air. I also have a tens machine in case I do not like the pool.

This is what I have so far but not sure if I need more, less, paragraphs instead of bullet points. I doubt it is in any order either.

? I would like to give birth at home in a birth pool.

? My Mum is going to be my birth partner.

? I would like Gas and Air. I will also have a TENS machine in case I do not like the birth pool

? I am also planning on using some hypnobirthing techniques to help with the pain.

? If I do not like the birth pool I want to be moving around as much as possible. I do not want to give birth on my back.

? I would like the baby to be delivered straight into my arms or onto my chest.

? I do not mind having 1 trainee to come along with the midwives but only the 1 please.

? I want to give birth in the pool. I would rather stay in the pool if possible.

? I do not want an episiotomy unless an absolute emergency.

? I do not want the cord to be cut until it has stopped pulsating

? I would like to have a natural 3rd stage in the pool with the option of getting out and having the injection to help the placenta come out if I change my mind.

? I am planning to breastfeed

? I would like the baby to be given Vitamin K

What else should I add?

Thanks

Looks like you've pretty much got it sorted tbh! Don't have any useful advice myself but there was a previous thread in Jan on birth plans (hope the link works).

I would just say don't make it too long or too complicated or it will be ignored. Good luck - I hope you get the birth you want.

I just did my birth plan with my MW and it was just a case of her ticking boxes and writing any additional notes in my pack of maternity notes. There's a couple of pages just for the birth plan.

It seems to have covered everything, although I might rearrange it slightly to put all the stuff about the birth pool in the same place. I never spoke to any midwife about my birth plan, but DH (my birth partner) knew it all and was the one who made sure I got what I wanted, so make sure your Mum knows all this as it might be quicker and easier for her to say than for a MW to have to read and remember.

Additional things that will be in mine.

No coaching or telling me when/how to push.
No internals.
No touching me or baby during delivery.
I will bring my baby to the surface myself.
No cutting cord until placenta out.
No getting out of pool until placenta out.
No clocks.

When i wrote my birth plan I got told not to put obvious things in as it's just annoying telling the midwives how to do their jobs. Now i've experienced birth, I say put down every damn thing!!!! Not every midwife is a loving amazing person and easiness for them to do someting does not always correlate with what is best for you and what you want.

I originally wrote that i'd rather have a c-section than forceps and episiotomy. Turns out thats what I ended up having (was so drugged up I didn't even realise i'd had forceps until the next day and DS's eye was squashed! Everyone said they wouldn't do that unless it was necessary, but even then I still had choices that were taken away from me.

I'd also really think about a birth plan in case you can't give birth at home. I had a 100% normal pregnancy, i'm only 21 so was the perfect candidate for a nice easy birth. It didn't happen that way so I think it' important that if you are taken to hospital you make sure that you have your preferences made clear!
