labour and vulval varicose veins?

Hi there, just been told by the midwife today that I have varicose veins of my undercarriage, nice. I read online somewhere that there's the possibility of more tearing/heavier bleeding with these varicose veins yet have also read and been told by the midwife that they won't affect labour at all. So do you mind if I ask for your experience of vulval varicose veins during labour?
I had been hoping to try to stay active as much as possible during labour - but given that I'm in a lot of pain when standing/walking around I suppose that's not going to be practical? Will it also affect my delivery position?

Many thanks in advance Smile

Oh we'd also been planning on having a homebirth (so long as there are no medical complications), if there is more chance of heavy tearing with VV should we be opting for a hospital birth instead?

I had these with my ds2. Nobody told me I did, but I diagnosed myself with them! I did have a 3rd degree tear. I don't know about the chances being increased because of the VV. I had fairly heavy PPH - about 1600 mls I think, and I do think this was caused by the VV, just so much more blood in the area so when the tear happened. It was a LOT of blood, it looked like a massacre in there. Once they sewed me up I was absolutely fine.
