No for me as well... DS1 was around 8 hours, DS2 around 1 hour and then DS 3 was 6 hours, and I had my first epidural and gave birth for the first time not lying flat on my back. So certainly a bit different, and your midwife isn't necessarily right, OP!

Time in established labour...
#1 18 hours
#2 5 hours
#3 1.5 hours - paramedics delivered him as there wasn't time to get to the hospital
#4 2 hours

my grandmother had very quick births... her 3rd was her quickest.... she went from just pregnant with no signs of labour to having her baby in her arms in 15mins!

claricestar · 23/04/2012 14:03

third birth was quicker (48 minutes from 2cm to birth) but had a nice few hours of twinges and irregular contractions as a build up. pretty intense but a great birth

BulletProofMum · 23/04/2012 14:05

DC1 - 16 hrs, no prgression and CS
DC2 - 14hrs - ventouse
DC3 - 1 hour and not enough time for the epidural . They wouldn't even stab me with pethidine :( Horrid but over quickly and by far the fastest recovery

MamaMaiasaura · 23/04/2012 14:06

Dc1 Back to back48 hours and emergency cs
dc2 back to back 8 hours vbac
Dc3 just over 2 hours. Was shoved on another ward as apparently not in labour, 2 hours later dd born within 3 pushes and 9lb3. Wonder wether lack of pain relief and monitoring sped it all up.

BulletProofMum · 23/04/2012 14:09

Mama - I was MamaMaiasaur for a while ! You got dinasaur stomp too? (sorry OP)

naturalbaby · 23/04/2012 14:14

My 3rd took longer to get going but when it did it only took about 1/2hr. I'm not sure about exact active labour/dilation/stages because I was home alone and the midwife missed the whole thing. There was a very good reason I'd planned a home birth!

I've read/heard/been told that 3rd labour can often be totally different to the previous 2.

My 3 have all been induced but first 2 took ages
3rd once labour got going went fast!
Went from 3cm to delivery in 15 minutes! Took ages to get to 3cm though.
Hoping. For a similar experience this time.
So I would say different rather than fast for my 3rd

BeehavingBaby · 30/04/2012 19:18

I got told longer which I think made me ignore labour to the extant that I was out shopping 45mins before I had her, just made it back to the house.

busyboysmum · 30/04/2012 20:26

My 1st was the worst, 2nd the best and quickest, 3rd was a water birth but more intense as no pain relief.
