How long were you in Labour?

I ended up having an EMCS with DC1 and am currently 27 weeks pregnant with DC2 and considering a VBAC. My consultant has advised not labouring beyond 12hrs so was wondering about others' experiences (i.e how realistic this time frame might be)with their DC's.

Thanks

Yeah ask if they mean start to finish or just active labour

DS 13hours start to finish (3.5hrs active, 6mins pushing)
DD 4hours start to finish (1.5hrs active, 4mins pushing)

"active " and "latent" my arse

joymaker · 17/04/2012 16:57

joy, the worst thing was my pg had followed my mum's to the letter, and she had convinced me that I would have labours like hers too - 10hrs for DB, 6hrs for me! And the mw who did my sweep on the Thursday before told me I was 2cm already and not only would I have my baby that weekend, I'd also be "fine" and "cope well" because I coped well with the sweep. I was begging for an epidural or, failing that, morphine from Monday eve... Liars, all of them, liars!

Hope yours is much better Smile

From waters going to DS arrival was 4 days, almost to the hour! I was about to be put back on a ward to start gel pessary procedure all over again the next day, when painful consistent contractions finally started.

From first really painful contraction to birth was about 12 hours, although I was 'pushing' for 3 hours (i.e. was at 10cm 3 hrs before DS finally came out).

JollySergeantJackrum · 17/04/2012 20:07

Felt like days tbh. Contractions started about 1am Wed. So bad I couldn't sleep - but not constistent. Continued all day Wed, waters broke about 4am Thursday morning. DS was born 23:19 Thursday. I was on gas and air from about lunch time on Thursday.

HatchedAtTheHutch · 17/04/2012 20:11

2 hrs 2 mins! Good luck joymaker

surroundedbyblondes · 17/04/2012 20:11

From start to finish (first twinge to holding baby)
DD1 8hours
DD2 6hours

both born around the same time, interestingly enough. Just after 9am.

Lac365 · 17/04/2012 20:12

50 hrs as in 2 days and 2 hours

dlady · 17/04/2012 20:14

8hrs with dd1, from waters breaking to delivery. Including a prolonged 2nd stage, nearly 3 hours, they were just starting to think about intervention when she was born. She was fine all the way through.

Dd2, an induced birth, was 2hrs 20mins from them breaking my waters to delivery. Definitely the easiest birth.

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 17/04/2012 20:25

From waters breaking 1 hour till first contraction, then 3 hours till fully dilated, then told to 'hang on' Hmm whilst paed crash team dashed in from around county, taken to theatre, twins found to be in a tangle, and delivered by emcs about 10 minutes later! Not quite how I'd have planned it Grin

artifarti · 17/04/2012 21:06

DS1 - two days until eventual EMCS (induced at 40+14)
DS2 - 4 hours from first contraction until baby out (VBAC). That was a surprise, I can tell you!

joymaker · 17/04/2012 21:23

Reading all these posts just makes me realise afresh how much we as women go through and amazing we all are Grin

Arti congratz on a sucessful Vbac!
Bella and Hatched thanks for the well wishes Smile

26 hours start to finish Shock

thunksheadontable · 19/04/2012 04:02

Waters went Tue am, 0 contractions at hosp.. Home for 24 hours, on off contractions all day. 2cms dilated 24 hrs later, started on drip, mild build up until 12am, 3hrs post drip, then a minute each, 2 mins apart and getting faster/longer til I got epi at 4pm and was 4cms. 10cms at 10pm. 2 hrs to descend. Pushing for 2 hrs. Delivery by forceps in theatre. I think1cm dilation an hour is pretty average for first timer, 1/2 cm predicted for second. Guessing labour proper was in the region of 8-10 hrs?

ComposHat · 19/04/2012 04:46

Curse you curryspice I was going to put that, but it was the previous immoral, illegal and utterly futile war that did for me.

Although I am thinking of rejoining now.

celticlass · 19/04/2012 04:59

First time round, waters broke at 1am,no prior pains,ds1 born 7 hrs later. Second time waters broke at 1am,no prior pains,ds2 born 6 hrs later. 3rd time round in slow labour for 5 effing weeks, cervix would not dilate more than 2cm,finally induced last fri at 39+5 with gel,gel didn't bloody work, waters broken at 6.30 pm,at 9.55pm cervix was checked and was still...yep 2cm! Started getting epi set up as thought would be heading for section, suddenly felt bearing down movements, was checked again and lo and behold was 5cm,ds3 born at 11.06 pm :D Best of luck x

vvviola · 19/04/2012 05:25

DD1: 6 hours from waters breaking to holding her

DD2: 40 minutes from waters being broken to holding her! I had got to 8cm without feeling any contractions though. It seems I don't go into active labour with contractions I can feel until my waters break/are broken

ibizagirl · 19/04/2012 06:13

12 minutes. Woke up, went to toilet and waters went. Had a lift to hospital, straight into delivery at 10 and dd was born at 12 minutes past 10. She just shot out without really pushing. First and only baby. Felt cheated a little bit as it was so quick. BUT i wanted to go home straight away as we were both fine and i had to stay in for 4 days!! "because it was my first". Horrid place.

minipoppet · 19/04/2012 06:38

dd1-18 hours
dd2-6 hours
ds1- 8 hours
ds2-3 hours

minipoppet · 19/04/2012 06:38

booksandchoc · 19/04/2012 22:41
