Had elcs two weeks ago, all was going well with recovery, overdid things yesterday and now it looks like my scar has started to come apart.

It's very red and itchy and I think there is a small hole at one end that looks weepy.

Midwife coming to have a look today. So what happens now?! What can be done?

Mine was similar love, sounds like it might be infected. They gave me some anti-biotics and dressed the wound, the dressing was changed every other day by a nurse, and the whole thing healed quite quickly after that.

Might need to be restitched although hopefully not - this happened to a friend of mine and it was fine.

This was like mine (from EMCS). Had the district nurse come out every other day to change it - was already on antibiotics - and it healed after a couple of weeks.

Midwife Rang and said to go to GP instead. His verdict was that the stitches are OK but there is an infection. Rather than do a swab and wait to see what it is, he prescribed ABs and anti fungal talc, to 'hit it from both sides' as it were.

I'm OK with that course of action but I'm scared to touch my scar - it looks red raw and nasty. I have a lovely overhang (not overweight btw) and the scar is buried under it so I'm not surprised it got infected. I have no idea how to keep it dry - talc twice a day is not going to cut it. Sad

Mine kept healing then reopening and then doing it all again turns out what the doc thought was infection was actually a stitch that didn't dissolve. I was due to have it taken out by gp but freaked out so much I did it myself as didn't want anyone touching my scar Sad

If yoi don't have a dressing on it, clean your scar 2 or 3 times a day, then dry with a hairdryer on low heat setting. If you think its getting sore from sweatiness, then keeping it clean and dry will help. I had similar problems with the post cs overhang, and that seemed to work for me.

AlexanderSkarsgardIWould · 12/04/2012 18:42

This happened to me. I went twice a week to have it dressed by the nurse at my GP's practice until it was sorted - maybe ask the GP if the nurse can look at it rather than doing it yourself? Since it healed up I've had no further problems, even though I only remember to lift my overhang up and clean under it every now and again! Blush

And take it easy. You just had major surgery, you're allowed to.

AlexanderSkarsgardIWould · 12/04/2012 18:44

P.S. I also hate people touching my scar, not even DP is allowed near it.

kickingking · 12/04/2012 19:02

Been told to clean it with surgical spirit - ouch! Have already been using hairdryer to dry it after showering.

This is my second elcs but I didn't have an overhang last time. Will it ever go or am I going to be stuck with a flappy bit of skin and recurrent fungal infections? Sad

Like I said, I still have the flappy bit of skin but no fungal infections (three years on).

kickingking · 12/04/2012 19:13

It just looks vile at the moment! I can't remember what it looked like first time around, maybe there was an overhang at two weeks after? I know there wasn't by two months.
