Does anyone who has had a homebirth know what pain relief you can have at home? i assume its only entinox? Am considering for my 4th (and last) baby. Thanks

My doc said pethidine is not a good idea for the homebirth cos its hard to get the dosage right and if they give you too much the baby can have trouble breathing when he comes out which is hard to correct in a home setting.

I managed fine on gas and air at home (until had to be carted in ambulance sirens wailing to hospital - but still only gas and air)

If you get pethidine for a home birth you also need to order the antidote for the baby (and you need to ask as some GP don't think of it!). It's extremly unusual to use pethidine in a home birth.... especiallly for a 4th!

Hi,
Which birth pools did you use whilst at home?

another wimp here who had an epidural for no 1. no 2 arrived at home and I had no pain relief at all. The tens machine doesn't count cos I forgot to turn it up! I do think that you play certain mind tricks with yourself. You know there's isn't an anaesthetist down the corridor, and you also know that the baby's coming out and you will be fine. So you get on with it. I felt very in control of my pain, I wasn;t scared of it. And that makes a huge difference.

"I felt very in control of my pain, I wasn't scared of it. And that makes a huge difference." that is exactly IT Smile

Just had TENS for the actual birth for Ds2+3 (one planned, one unplanned homebirth)
Had entonox for the stitches for DS2.....even though I was flat on my back on the bedroom floor it worked a treatSmile
