Emergency c section and recovery

My lil one is now 3 weeks old and although I am ok walking into town and back and doing light house work my body is telling me I am doing too much. I was just wondering how long it will be until I start feeling like me again.

Also when can I go swimming, do sit ups etc without running the risk of hurting myself. My health visitor wasnt too clear on what I can and can't do.

Last question... when can I get pregnant again? I really wanted two children close together but I know the c section takes time to heal internally but again not sure how long to wait??

VERY good advice from QTPie there. I had an emergency C-section and felt physically strong enough to drive after 2 weeks (I had no restrictions on my insurance). However, I wasn't exercising etc so really it was just day to day activities I was doing.

Congratulations.
Sage advice from QTPie

I started to feel better at 8 weeks.

I'm 9 weeks post emcs and while I felt physically good around 4, 5 weeks or so, I've just started exercising and I have to say I really felt it. My stomach muscles were obviously easily stressed and also I noticed my pelvic floor felt a bit dodgy when jogging!!

We were advised by a lady chatting about postnatal fitness in some NHS classes that we shouldn't jog or do breaststroke Sad. Annoying as they are about the only two forms of exercising I would do! She didn't give a time limit on not doing them though. I mean, it can't be forever?!

Hi firstly Congratulations Smile I had a crash c section following a hellish pregnancy with my ds. I was told to take things as easy as possible for 6-8weeks. To be honesty my body was so bashed and bruised it took me about 3 months to feel like my body was mine again. I second all everyone else has said re breast feeding too. I was told to wait a year before ttc again (not a issue for me) but I had a T incision up as well as across as they needed to get my ds out ASAP so I'm not sure if that's standard advice? Avoid sit up s for a while a couple of years later I still feel a pull on my scar your muscles there are gonna be very tender for a while my dr advised about 6 months. Hope any of that helps Smile

I have emergency c section with dd1 2.7 and a planned c section with dd2 9 months so you don't have to leave too long between pregnancies if you don't want too...

Thanks everyone. I am breastfeeding and didnt realise this can affect ligaments etc and I didnt do all that much during pregnancy so am going to be very careful when starting exercise. I will be taking a list of questions to my 6 week check up too. A year between pregnancies sounds fine, I was thinking of June next year fot ttc. I will be asking about muscle separation too. I was totally unprepared and uneducated about c section as my first DS was born vaginally and I didnt think I would have a problem this time.
