Has anyone had a c section with severe SPD/PGP? Advice for recovery?

It looks like my body isn't going to oblige with going into labour naturally and I have been referred for a c section on Friday (2nd child, first EMCS).

I was hoping for VBAC as I have heard that severing the stomach muscles makes the recovery from c section and SPD that much harder, but needs must.

Is there anything I can do - or shouldn't do ? to look out for my body?

I have been suffering from SPD since 16 weeks and am at the crutches stage of misery. I'm terrified of not recovering and want to do everything I can to help. I actually have dreams of running and jumping I miss it so much!

I have a brilliant DH who is going to look after our toddler for 2 weeks (with help from DMiL and DM) so at least I don't have to run around after her.

oh god i'm almost mirror image with time frame of PGP starting, crutches etc so no help sorry but now need your advice, were you told you had to have section cos of pgp or because your overdue xx

I had an EMCS with severe PGP, literally couldn't walk. Day after delivery it was amazing, pain free (prob due to the meds for section but still!), and fully mobile. No probs with recovery at all.

I was told that vaginal birth would be better as I've been doing physio and pilates to keep going, and my tummy muscles have got quite strong. But I had an emcs first time round, so unless I went into labour naturally or was favourable for having my waters broken, it was always going to be a c section.

I'll be 12 loooooong days overdue by Friday. My pelvis bubbles and cracks when I turn over in bed at night now Sad (not to mention the pain.

Good luck for your recovery. I have a seven month old child (first) and opted for a C-section after dreadful PGP. Recovery has been slow and like you, I've been terrified of not getting better. Almost everyone seems to just bounce back and I'm assured that even for those of us who take a little longer, specialist therapy does get you there eventually. As for advice, I expect you've heard about Pelvic Partnership already - if not, look them up and call the help line. The ladies there are so reassuring. In addition to that, I suggest you make sure the midwives give you one of those height adjustable beds (and have it on low), insist your breakfast is brought to you (don't shuffle on gamely before the morphine wears off, it's not good) and have a really thick skin, because not everyone understands that ladies with PGP are a special case.

Hi rhi thought you might be interested in an update.

I had my c section a week ago and for the first time last night turned over without pain - I think you know what a big step that is! It's all still quite crunchy but physio said that as my stomach muscles heal from the section they will start acting their part again and it should all firm up.

so, a good start!

I also had SPD, ans spent the last two months of my pregnancy needing a frame and wheelchair. It was a pure living hell, so much sympathy to you! After my section, I could literally just walk. It was like a miracle. Although it took a few weeks to get the strength back in my legs. Especially for things like climbing in to the bath or walking up/down the stairs.

Best of luck, and I hope all goes well x
