Ways to Pass the time During an Induction (before it all gets going, obviously!)

I am due to be induced at 38 weeks due to a medical condition (it may be a bit more than 38 weeks, but certainly no more than 40 weeks.)

I am under the impression that things may be pretty slow to start off with, so me and DH have also got a close friend to come with us for moral support.

I was wondering, for inspiration, how you can pass the time while waiting for things to really get going? Can think of the obvious magazine's etc route, but wondered if any of you can recommend anything more unusual / interesting.

Lastly, hearing about others experiences of induction and how they found it would be most welcome!

Thank you!

Books, cards...you may be able to walk round in the early stages if you've had prostaglandin or ARM (in fact it'll be encouraged)

I want to keep as lively as possible, yes!

With Dd1 I was allowed outside for a while and wandered down the Fulham Road looking in the shops. DP and I even went to a pub or a drink.
But otherwise with Dd2 I paced a lot, watched TV and got very bored.

Pub?! Now there's an idea! Grin

i am going to be really boring and say other than staying mobile to try and get things going its actually a good idea to rest and sleep if you can, you will need your energy for labour! so if you have the opportunity to sleep then to try to i was induced with all 5 of mine and ended up waiting till a room was free on delivery for no 2 and 3 so they could break my waters, both times they had space in the middle of the night! so if that happens try and get some sleep, you wont be getting much once baby arrives!

but yes cards, reading, go for a walk etc :)

all 5 of my inductions were fine by the way, no 4 was the best, had him in the birth pool :) managed fine with gas and air etc, the worse was no 1, but that was for various reasons.
