Back and leg pain

I've had a dull backache for the last 3 days or so, & leg pains in my butt/thighs accompanying it. I wondered if this might be an early sign of labour? I lost my mucus plug (I think) about 5 days ago but when i saw my doc 3 days ago he said the baby's head hadn't engaged yet (I am 38w 3 days). Might this be something or just general aches and pains?

Oh that's good! Nothing else happened last night unfortunately, though, apart from some impressive leg cramps to add to the back ache! Im hoping it means that things are slowly moving in the right direction!

Sorry to be uncool & post on my own thread twice in a row!-but now it is almost impossible to lie on my side and Im having to sleep propped up-is it likely the babies head has engaged and is the cause of the discomfort?

It's all the usual geering up to labour stuff. Baby does not have to be engaged for you to go into labour btw. Good news is that this is normal Pre labour stuff. Bad news is that this can feasibly go on for several weeks. I am term today and have had these symptoms on and off for 4 weeks now.

That's good to know - thank you - here's hoping both of us get to meet our little ones soon!

They sound like good labour preparation signs. Am due on Saturday with dc2 and experiencing the very same - sudden cramps in thighs and bum - and very low backache almost as soon as I get into bed. Is this your first baby?

Is your baby moving about much? Mine seems to go into overdrive around 11pm - with limbs suddenly sticking out all over the bump and pretty sharp/grinding type pains right low down. I find these dramatic movements really hard to cope with - almost worse than contractions! (sorry to hijack your post OP)

Hi chummy mummy, my LO (my 1st) always used to get really active at 11pm too!-though at the moment he's now moving loads throughout the day...I am glad they sound like good pre labour signs - I hope that your little one arrives soon...! Is it also your 1st?

I guess it's a sign of the nocturnal baby to come! This is my 2nd baby - my 1st was one day early so am hoping this one will be too. Good luck with your birth and very exciting that you will soon have a baby in your arms. Enjoy every minute

I had my little boy, and the main symptoms of my labour were, leaking waters, the plug gone, belly pains all of wednesday, then nothing on thursday, just a couple of severe cramps lasting maybe 20 seconds until 11pmish, and then i couldnt settle, pacing etc, went in to hospital, they examined me at about4.30, and said they would re examine me at 6, by an hour and twenty minutes later i had gone from being three cm dilated to being 8cm, and they ruished me around to the labour ward. But i am glad my first stages were so slow, cos that is i am sure why i had an "easy" uncomplicated, birth and didnt tear or need stitches etc. I did have back ache though.

Good luck with both your little ones. And by the way my little boy was a nocturnal baby, but started sleeping through at 7weeks, and has done since (now coming up to 2, unless poorly), so maybe active babies are easier, certainly seems that way, amybe we should do a survey?

AGAIN good luck and hope you have easy birth and that both mum's and babies are well.
