C-Section date dilemma

Hi all!

I am after some advice re. arranging a date for my potential c-section. I am expecting my 2nd, and the due date is 23rd July. I find out at 30 weeks if I am going to be booked in to have Caesarian. It is highly likely because I had to have an emergency one last time due to baby boy being too big and problems I'd had with SPD. My dilema is that my son's 3rd birthday is 19th July, this is the week I would be booked into having the section. When I have told friends and family members this I have received mixed reactions such as 'ooh you could book it on his b'day so they'd always share a birthday, that'd be nice' and others have said 'it won't be fair to have the 2 birthdays on the same day'.
I'd really appreciate reading your opinions and reasons. :)

Usually you dont get to choose, they do them on certain days, my hospital doesnt do them on fridaya, so they booked my in for the following monday (next monday whoop). If you are asking whether it should be the same day, i would say no, try and get another day.

I don't think they'd appreciate the same date at all once they're older!
I was given a choice of 2 dates (ie "we can do it on wed or thurs, which do you want".) So you might get that.

I'm in a very similar situation. My DD's 3rd birthday is 6th April, my due date is the 13th of April, and it looks like I'm heading for another ELCS for breech presentation (baby stubbornly sitting in exactly the same place that DD was!).

DD is sooo excited about her birthday - I'd really like to give her a proper party and all the attention, before we have the new baby. And I'd prefer to have at least a few days between their birthdays for when they're older and have their own sets of friends and different interests. I guess it's unlikely that they'd book me for the 6th anyway (as it's Good Friday), but I'm really hoping that they let wait 'til after the Easter weekend.

I was due on my brother's 3rd birthday, and as I was late (no CS), my brother's party was delayed by a couple of weeks - he thought I was his birthday present for a long time! All through our childhood we had strict rules about how long birthday cards were allowed to stay up for and birthday parties were spaced out. I'd try to avoid the same day if you can, but don't worry about how far apart they are - it works out in the end.

HappyAsEyeAm · 12/03/2012 10:31

If I were you, I'd do whatever I could to avoid the same day and have as large a gap between days as possible.

My db was born the day before my second birthday. Growing up we loved the birthday week (especially as it was normally half term) but my mum told me recently that she found it utterly exhausting and dreaded it! She was very good and did separate parties on our birthdays though rather than moving them around or doing joint ones.

So prob try for a few days respite inbetween!

I half-heartedly questioned my c-section date, and was given a Hmm look.
IME, you don't get a choice, and get the date a week before you go in for the cs. Other hospitals may be different though.

I got my last c section date months in advance, and did get a choice - I think the op needs to find out the practice at her local hospital!

harrygracejessica · 12/03/2012 22:24

I wouldnt pick the same date if at all possible, my last twins were booked in on my birthday and I was gutted as they have to share with each other as it is - they came early in the end anyway.

My friend had twin girls on her daughters birthday so that month is mega expensive lol

SkiBumMum · 12/03/2012 22:42

If I were you & you have a say you have your first child's bday before you have this baby so he can be PFB for that special time
