Elective section

I have been told really early on in this pregnancy that I will have to have a csetion. (after 2 emergency sections 1 crash)
Have mixed feelings about this. Nervous about op but pleased I can come up with some sort of plan so I get more of the birth I want.
Just wondering what others have been allowed to do in their elective sections. I am thinking in terms of wanting to see actual delivery, sex baby myself and have skin to skin in theatre.
Does this seem realistic?
Thank you.

I had a c section (breech baby) and went into labour 2weeks early. Had skin to skin after they checked him, prob about a few mins after. In regards to finding out gender yourself, I'm sure that would be fine! They lifted my boy up straight away so I was able to tell. Are you going to have anyone with you? Good luck!

I had section last week, planned. Baby was put straight on to my chest before getting cleaned up etc and DH was given job of announcing sex to me. Planned section was great, so different to emergency, was really rather wonderful actually! Hope yours is too.

Thank you. My 1st section was with a Ga so I missed out completely. Although realistically dd might not be here today without it. My 2nd was after getting to 8-9 cms. I really didn't have the energy at the time to make my feelings known. They did let me hold ds in theatre but it was after he was all wrapped up and the registrar announced the sex.
Really hoping for a better experience this time.
Congrats pjd
Incidently at what gestation do they normally do sections?

I was booked in for 39+3 weeks. They let me pick the day! It's very relaxed when you go in. They'll take your blood pressure and listen to baby. Then you wait! I remember the song that was being played on the radio when he was born and even had a conversation with them whilst they was doing it! They might even let you choose your own music :)

I had EMCS and they allowed us to sex the baby ourselves. Unfortunately they just showed us DD quickly over the screen, DH saw what she was but I couldn't because the screen was in the way. I had to ask and the anaesthetist told me it was a girl. She had to go off to SCBU for a couple of hours so I did skin to skin when she was brought to me in recovery. If someone had told me prior to the birth that this was going to happen I'd have been up in arms but after nearly 48hrs with no sleep, I was too exhausted and freezing cold to be bothered. I knew she needed to go there and we'd been told it was a possibility right before they took her down. On her return skin to skin was fantastic and she latched on straightaway but I recognise this isn't always the case.
Good luck with your birth, hope it goes the way you want.

I had a planned section at 37 wks with DD due to a health issue. It was a so-called 'natural' section, were they lower the curtain when they lift the baby out, allow you to see the gender for yourself and have some skin-to-skin immediately (although DD was quickly taken to be cleaned, weighed and checked over, although always in my line of vision). We were back in recovery within 30 mins (flew by) and then I had skin-to-skin and breastfed for hours. Was blissful.
