Well I certainly didn't. They wheeled me back to the ward.

ripsishere · 05/03/2012 12:58

Nor me.

In my hospital they have a special high dependency room and if you have a c section (all types - elective, emergency or crash) or any complications you stay there the first night. I was in there the night I had my first. It was a forceps delivery.

Hope this helps.

One of my inlaws did, but AFAIK she had had a really tough time and was quite ill. Don't know the details, though.

Poledra · 05/03/2012 13:04

Nor me. A few hours in recovery, then back to the maternity ward

Piccalilli2 · 05/03/2012 13:05

I didn't. But there are lots of different reasons why someone might have an emcs with GA. Mine was all related to the baby, she had the cord round her neck and they needed to get her out too fast to wait for epidural to work but I was fine. In other cases I imagine there might be something wrong with the mum, in which case HDU might be appropriate

hi all,

thanks for the speedy replies, reason i'm asking is because this is what happened to me back in 2005. thing is, in my notes it just says taken to hdu for GA and thats all. I know that my breathing kept stopping and thats why i was there but there's nothing in my notes to suggest this. I'm just a bit worried that my consultant isn't going to take me seriously as it isn't in black and white so i'm half expecting them to say 'well everyone goes there after GA'

thanks again xx

I had emergency CS with epidural and had to stay in HDU due to blood loss (monitoring me in case needed transfusion!)

jellybeans · 08/03/2012 22:01

I had crash section/GA was in HDU for 3 days after massive blood loss and internal bleeding/further op.With my other sections (didn't have GA) was in a closely watched ward for first night but it wasn't HDU.

emsyj · 09/03/2012 22:14

I had a crash section with GA and went to a post-op ward for a couple of hours afterwards, then to a room (my local maternity unit is all private rooms now as newly refurbed). So not in HDU. I had a pph in theatre and was offered blood, but said if it wasn't medically 100% necessary then thanks but no thanks. Seems odd to me to be 'offered' a transfusion, but it happened!

countessbabycham · 09/03/2012 22:17

Emergency section with GA and on to the usual post natal ward for me.

Faverolles · 09/03/2012 22:22

I was ill when I had ds2, and was warned before the ELCS that if there were any complications, it would be a crash section and a sedated stay in HDU, so I suppose it must happen sometimes for whatever reason.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 09/03/2012 22:24

when I had ds by emcs in 2005, I spent the first night in a high dependency side ward.

Meglet · 09/03/2012 22:25

I was on the HDU for about 12hrs following my EMCS and planned cs. No complications.

The HDU is far nicer than the post-natal ward, they actually, you know look after people in there. I nearly cried when they wheeled me out after my planned cs Sad. (got a private room the next day after refusing to shut up asking).

somethingwittynot · 23/04/2012 11:08

i spent 6 days in HDU but was very touch and go. lucky to be here

Anomaly · 23/04/2012 22:47

I've had three sections and spent time in the HDU following them all just being monitored - I thought it was standard practice. Only once they were happy baby and I were healthy were we taken to the post natal ward.

cory · 26/04/2012 23:08

I did after my non-GA section, but that was because my blood pressure was fluctuating wildly, not because of the section per se.
