Best maternity pads?

Hello, just wondered if there were any particular maternity pads that were better than others? Was about to throw some in with my Tesco shop but suddenly thought I'd better check if there was a particular brand that people recommended. Thanks in advance

Tenalady pants. Seriously. You can pad out with some other pads as well, but they are so comfy.

Tesco do good ones. No point paying £££ as you will get through loads, especially if your waters break at home.

I used Kotex pads in black packaging. No idea what they are called but I think you can get them in Wilkinsons. They really were a lot better than the standard maternity pads. I seem to remember they were extra long and thick.

I used tesco own in the green packaging. Soft, comfy and cheap :)

I was told that sanitary pads soak up blood and incontinence pads are for urine, Used to work in a nursing home! I had some tesco ones that were fine and mothercare ones and some boots ones...I went through more than anticipated...I had no preference they all did the job no complaints/mishaps! Grin

I used Asda ones for about 2 weeks after and then want onto my normal Always Utra ones. The Asda ones seemed to do the job and were comfy, even after an episiotomy :)

Brilliant. Thanks so much for your replies, will grab them whenever I see them on offer then.

I favoured the ones with aloe Vera in, from Mothercare.

susiegrapevine · 04/03/2012 22:15

I just used always ultra night as they are longer and hold more than the normal ones no need to use special maternity ones I don't think.

The Kotex black pads. Cheap and the best I tried. No need for expensive maternity pads, as long as the ones you've bought are long and well padded, and don't have weird coating on.

Boots owni found the best, and lots of them!!!

MissPenteuth · 05/03/2012 17:19

I liked Boots and Tesco own brands. Didn't like Superdrug ones (can't remember why though).

cardamomginger · 05/03/2012 19:36

Don;t use normal sanitary towels. The deordorising/perfuming stuff could irritate you and could mask any signs of infection - an off smell being one such sign. I used Boots and Tesco own - found them virtually indistinguishable. The thicker ones are really nice and padded, which was very comforting in the early days. Later on I switched to the thin ones, which I found to be pretty much invisible under clothing.

pootlebug · 06/03/2012 19:19

Didn't really find much difference. Do use the proper thick mattress-like ones in the early days though, not anything super-slim....you'll need the padding for comfort. You can switch to the thin ones after a few days if you prefer.
