TMI, question about how quick you were cleaned up.

when i gave birth to ds, I was left sitting in my afterbirth mess for almost 15 minutes. I had to ask the midwife twice to clean me up (had an epidural so couldn't move much) I was quite upset to have to be left in a bloody mess all over my legs and feet for quarter of an hour :(

is this normal?

That was quick. I was at least an hour.

I have no recollection either time - was all a blur

With DD I had loads of skin to skin and was feeding for an age

I do remember having a bath after each delivery but was an hour or two after IIRC

Like rubyslippers, I can't recall at all!

OP, this doesn't really answer your question, but I'm a great believer in adding a bit of good news to threads which might be read by those yet to give birth...

about half an hour with DD1, aaaaages with DD2 but I had tonnes of stitches/a PPH etc...
15min doesn't seem that long really to me.

PufftyMagicDragon · 29/02/2012 15:19

So it turns out i was pretty lucky then! I just wondered if it was a long time or not (ive only done it once, however due to do it again)

was able to take a shower about 1 hour after birth, after having been stitched up. meanwhile m/w cleaned the bed so I could snuggle up all clean and cosy with baby.

BiltongandBoerewors · 29/02/2012 15:26

It was about an hour with DD1, epidural, stitches etc. until they came in as washed and cleaned the bits I couldn't reach. DD2 I was up and having a bath within an hour of her being born. They ran me a huge bath with nothing added then the gave me DD2 to cuddle in the water for a while as she was covered in thick muconium. DH then snuggled her dry and I washed and hopped out.

Hi, my experience was pretty similar to mousymouseafraidofdogs. I went to have a bath I would say about 1 hour after giving birth as my tummy - and pubes (sorry if TMI) - were covered in vernix. Because I'd been cut and stitched, I couldn't bathe with soap and therefore found the vernix almost impossible to wash off the hair with water alone. That remained there until after I returned home.

Also, I didn't quite have the strength to haul myself out of the bath (combo of exhaustion and a painful back). One midwife refused to help get me out because of the risk to her back, so I was stuck there for a few extra minutes calling for DH! I felt like some frail little turtle who was stuck on it's back! Confused

I don't think 15 minutes is long at all. Was probably about half an hour to an hour after DD born as cuddling/feeding DD straight after she was born and that would have taken up fair amount of time. MW changed sheets while I lay there but didn't have a bath for about hour afterwards. Was offered tea and toast before I got cleaned up.

Lunarlyte · 01/03/2012 16:10

No-one got me any tea and toast :( Somebody please play a tiny violin for me! I gave birth at 9:31am and managed to get the most awful cheese sandwich on the post-natal ward at about 1:30pm!

My lovely DH, bless him, went and bought me loads of lovely food, after the tea and toast incident :)
