Curious about so-called 'cesarean overhang'

Hi, I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant with my second baby and am considering an ELCS due to ongoing problems with my back (coccydynia) during the labour of DD1.

I feel weird asking about the so-called 'CS overhang' when there are so many other more important things to be considering about cesarean delivery but I'm wondering nontheless. It periodically crops up when I read about CS and I was wondering whether many of you ladies who have had cesareans experienced this? If so, is it a permanent change? How can it be rectified? Other than this and scar, did your body change?

I'm a touch under 5'8 and weigh 9st5lbs when not pregnant. My bump isn't particularly big but obviously is compared with my non-pregnant body.

Sorry, I know it's a terribly vain question!

I had one for about 2 years after my CS, but once I'd lost the extra stone in weight that I was carrying around (compared to my weight pre-pregnancy) it disappeared.

Sorry but i did let out a hollow laugh when you asked 'did your body change'

It was my 3rd delivery, the previous 2 being VBs.

I have an overhang, its better when i can get down to aound 8 stone, much over that and i can notice it. My overhang isnt straight either (even though my scar is).
I had to have further emergency surgery after my CS
I was left with very heavy periods which required me to have a coil fitted as they were debilitating.
I also now have bowel adhesions which have caused sluggish bowel and intermittent abdominal pian.
I also had PTSD which im still taking medication for.

I would choose VB over CS anyday. I felt butchered, the oain was awful, i dont feel like i gave birth properly, i missed the feelings of VB.

Lots of people have postive CS experiences, im just giving you mine

Just to add i had no previous risk factors, not diabetic, not overweight, 3 normsl pregnancies and 2 normal deliveries.

Thank-you for your post mosschops30: I'm so sorry to read that you had such an awful experience with CS.

Was yours ann ELCS or EMCS? (I'm asking because you wrote that you needed to 'have further emergency surgery after my CS'. I inferred that you must have had an EMCS, but wouldn't like to assume).

I have the CS overhang too!

mosschops30 · 29/02/2012 18:53

It was officially an EMCS but more like a ELCS.
I was given a choice to continue with labour and synto or have a CS.
There was no rush, dh finished his sandwich, i already had an epidural so they wheeled me down when they were ready.

My emergency surgery was 5 days post-op but i had so many problems including infection, i couldnt walk properly for 2 months.

That's interesting tabulahrasa, I have joint hypermobility too, and my skin is very stretchy...too much collegen...No stretchmarks here. 4 kids. Slim though
5ft 7 ish 8 1/2 stone

tabulahrasa · 01/03/2012 08:09

I'm assuming they all have a link, I've tried looking into it before and there does definitely seem to be a link - but no real concrete information

like I said I have mild hypermobility, not to the point where it causes any issues for me, my DS has hypermobility and hypotonia which affects him in a lot of ways, he also has quite noticable stretchmarks -just from growing obviously, not from pregnancy, lol

so it makes sense that there's a collagen 'issue' if you see what I mean

Mine is going now I am losing the rest of the extra weight I gave been carrying (dd is seven months). My scar is minute, I was really lucky my surgeon was excellent (professor and head of obstetrics at the trust).
