Pregnant again after placental abruption

Just posting here as well as in Pregnancy on the off chance someone might be able to answer. Thanks.

As title really, I'm pregnant for the second time, first time ended in a 'silent' abruption and v poorly baby (now ok). Apparently they will look at blood flow in the placenta at my 20 weeks scan which will give an indication of whether this will recur, though it's my understanding that this isn't foolproof.

My question is, for anyone who's had a pregnancy after a previous placental abruption, how was your pregnancy managed? Were you delivered early and did you have extra monitoring towards the end of pregnancy?

You should ideally have fortnightly doppler scans from 30 weeks, any pain or rigidity in your abdomen should be reported immediately to your midwife, along with any change in pattern of kicks. You should have at least 10 movements in a day.

I know it's hard but please try very hard not to worry too much about it. Worrying will not cause it to happen but it will not stop it either. Just try and enjoy this pregnancy for the completely unique experience that it will be. I had a little boy stillborn and in the next pregnancy I set myself little milestones and rewarded myself and the baby with each. A wee blanket, a nice maternity top, a cute outfit for baby.

Hi Marilyn, thanks for replying. I'm so sorry to hear about your little boy, what a terrible thing to go through. I know I'm incredibly lucky that my dc survived.

I will try to chill out and will ask about the fortnightly scans as well - thanks for the advice x

Hi, I had an abruption in 2009, a mc in 2010 and am now 39+3. I have had a tiny bit more attention - an extra scan, a meeting with the consultant, but otherwise it has been pretty routine.
