VB after 2CS?

Anyone done this? I had emcs 5 years ago, and elcs 4years ago. My partner and I have been discussing having a baby together in the future (new partner, no children of his own).

I am terrified of giving birth, but worried about the recovery, and the amount of scarring for a third cs (internal scarring, I'm very squeamish!)

I'm wondering if the longer I leave it the safer it will be?

I am getting way ahead of myself, not planning to have a baby for a couple of years yet, but it's worrying me, would love to hear others experiences.

red there is some good, evidence based, information out there on VBAC, so my advice would be read up on it and not worry too much in the meantime.

The recovery from a normal birth should be much quicker, I know that all my friends had CS and I had a normal birth and I was up and around much earlier.

Why are you "terrified* of giving birth though?

Have you been on the Yahoo VBAC group? It's meant to be very helpful Smile

I had ELCS for breech baby and EMCS (more or less) due to waters breaking early and failure to progress.

Third time round obstetrician said there was no reason why I couldn't have a VBAC because the c-sections were for 'bad luck' (can't think of another phrase for it) reasons.

DC3 took any decision out of our hands by being premature and a VBAC.

Recovery-wise it was quicker but I'd actually been up and about really quickly after my c-sections.

Can you talk to your dr about the reasons for your c-sections and take it from there?

I have had to c-sections, one emergency and the other elective, and have been told by the obstetrician that if we have a third child, I won't have the choice anymore and it will have to be another c-section delivery.

two c-sections

Thanks for all the replies. My first labour was v.traumatic. I effectively 'stopped' the labour, due to many reasons, but I was in a very negative situation with the baby's father so lots of emotional issues and I just didn't have the strength left for childbirth after a very stressful pregnancy. My son has special needs and I wonder how relevant the birth experience was to this.

The second c-section was just over a year later, I wanted to try for vbac, but in te end I still felt too traumatised by the previous experience and so I chose an elective c-section. I knew I wasn't emotionally ready to deal with it, and felt it would probably end up in emcs anyway, so I might as well limit what my body had to deal with in terms of recovey.

I'm not planning to have another baby for another couple of years, but now we've discussed it it feels like a reality I need to think about. I think when the time comes I will look at getting some counselling, and try not to dwell on it for now!

Red can completely understand now why you are scared of giving birth naturally, has anyone told you about the Birth Trauma Association? I think it might help to read some of their stories and maybe get in touch with them and talk about your own experiences. They should be able to put you in touch with some Counsellors too.

When it does come to giving birth the next time, yes you will probably recover more quickly from a normal natural birth but don't forget, nobody gives you a big shiny medal if you do it naturally and nobody thinks any worse of you if you have a section Smile.

redhappy · 20/02/2012 21:10

Yes I think I will call them. I am welling up with tears at the thought -it's obviously time to face it all now.

Thankyou, your post really touched me, it's amazing what it can mean to have your experience validated by someone else!

red I hope you do manage to call them. They have all been through traumatic births and will be more than happy to talk to you Smile.

I was allowed a trial vbac with dd after 2 sections. It didnt work as i didnt dilate effectively but im glad i tried.
Having said that i have had a total of 4 sectiond and found each one easier to get over than the last.I has dd by elective a year ago and i was in the shower a bout 4 hrs later and went home after 2 days, was in minimal pain and walking normally. I thought i was just fab but apparently the more you have the less painful as the nerves are so damaged Grin
I have had one natural birth with ds1 and it was pretty scary, long and painfull and im not sure the recovery was all that quicker as i was torn.
Ps. 5 dc and i can cough with a full bladder.Every cloud Smile

That is a very good plus point ledKr Smile.
