If you had forceps and/or ventouse with your first- what was your 2nd birth like?

I always tell mums that if they had a very difficult time first time around (ventouse or forceps) and delivered vaginally the 2nd time around is much easier....
If you had one of the above and went for a 2nd vaginal birth... did you have ventouse or forceps again?
This is a non scientific survey but would love to hear your thoughts/views.
Thanks

this thread is so reassuring!
ds1 was epidural and ventouse, 30 hours in labour.
i'm now 21 weeks with ds2 and i'm really beginning to dread labour again, it all seems very 'close' again.
this thread has made me feel soooooo much better that this time, it might be different.
thanks

Just add more reassurance...DS 32 hour induced labour resulting in episiotomy and ventouse. Absolute hell on earth. DD also induced but 4 hour labour, only 2 hours of the really painful stuff, only 20 mins pushing, no tear. All helped by the fact that she was a pound lighter and not back to back which DS was. Home within 5 hours . Good luck to all those expecting their second

Don't think difficult 1st labour has a bearing on subsequent labours - thank god!

Dd1 - 22 hours, ventouse, ended up with MW trying to manually remove my placenta has it had broken inside of me and me shouting 'get your hand the fuck out of my vagina!'

ds - 2 hours from first 'ooo i think i've eaten something a bit dodgy' stomach cramp to giving birth. Nearly had him in the car!

deaddei · 19/11/2009 21:28

jay11- lol at you shouting! I had same experience as you (bar placenta)
dd1 -24 hrs, 2 epidurals, gas and air, pethadine- basically everything. Ventouse and forceps- eposiotomy, in hospital 4 days. 7lbs 12. Miserable, difficult child.
ds- popped out within an hour of waters breaking, no pain relief, walking about after half an hour, home after 6. A happy, sunny boy.10 lbs 12.

First time - Episiotomy & ventouse 8lb 5oz dd

Second time - Water birth for ds all 9lb 12oz of him!

Gas & air both times, tooth ache after ds's birth from biting down too hard on the mouth piece!

What I want to know is do subsequent babies get heavier??

jay11 · 19/11/2009 21:34

Yes, my dd1 is a bit of a misog.

have to say 2nd labours also have no bearing on the 3rd. Thought dd2 would be out after a mere cough, but she took 10 hours!

jay11 · 19/11/2009 21:35

And no to subsequent babies getting bigger.

dd1 6lb 9oz
ds 7lb 2oz
dd2 6lb 9oz

No rhyme or reason to any of it!

The first one was bloody hard work because he was on his well on his way out and then decided not to bother and then got the cord wrapped round himself the muppet!! The A team came bursting through the doors and saved the day with forceps and the like

DS2 was born 3 years 2 months later one pund heavier 10 days early and came charging out like some Tazmanian devil and snoogled into me.

I am convinced their births are like their personality. EG DS1 Things just happen to him!! He can fall over from standing still and is so gangly!! He starts things and can't be bothered to finish, DS2 charges everywhere and hasn't got a minute to live!!...and then wants his snuggles from me! Of course I'm joking but they love me to tell them that tale.

HateHoovering · 19/11/2009 21:47

I'll be the exception then...DS1 venteuse but ok, DS2 horrible forceps delivery, has made me doubt I'll ever have non-instrumental delivery and hence would go for section next time. I was convinced number 2 would be easier and was gutted. Just above average weights and I'm sure my pelvis diameter is also above average!

missmapp · 19/11/2009 21:49

ds1 failed venteuse and forceps- 7lb 7oz
ds2 no forceps/venteuse , small tear so few stiches needed 7lb 8oz

Twin boys (1981) firstborn was forceps, second twin was delivered feet first.
3rd son (1984) just a bit of gas and air, brilliant delivery.
4th son (1997) ventouse and scary!!!
