Silly c-section question

I feel I should know the answer to this, but I don't. I had a VB with DS, but am due to have a ELCS with this one due to placenta previa (sorry - no idea how to spell that!). So my question is this - will I still get lochia bleeding after a C-section? More? Less?

Yes you will. IME it was about the same.

Petrean · 11/02/2012 22:28

Yes and normally less.

DaisySteiner · 11/02/2012 22:28

Yes, you'll still have lochia after the operation. Initially you may find it's a bit less because your vagina is cleaned well with a swab to remove any blood/clots immediately after the operation. After this you'll probably find it's fairly similar to a vaginal delivery.

Yep I found it about the same

BikeRunSki · 11/02/2012 22:29

I have had 2 CS and no VB, so cannot compare "more" or "less", but yes, got lochia, but only for about a week or so both times, and nothing more than a normal period.

ShowOfUmblestAnds · 11/02/2012 22:29

Yep. Where the placenta is attached you will have a large wound which will take time to heal. Plus associated trauma and leftover lining and stuff.

Had two cs, bled for 6wks and 3 wks respectively. Light immediately afterwards but increased in severity around day 3/4, then did that tapering off/restarting thing for a while.

Confused
BelleRomford74 · 12/02/2012 08:53

Ive had 2 cs.. 1st emergency & bled heavier & longer than with 2nd ELC. Think it does vary from lady to lady but I am prepared for the worse. :(

Hopstheduck · 12/02/2012 08:54

Mine was about the same with the section as with vaginal.

Hopstheduck · 12/02/2012 08:55

I don't think it is silly neither, I had kinda hoped they would Hoover it all up after and that would be it Grin

BiscuitNibbler · 12/02/2012 09:00

Definitely not a silly question. I assumed they would have "hoovered" it all up too, and therefore when I was in the shower and it looked like a scene from Carrie I pulled the emergency cord, convinced I was dying. Blush

Yama · 12/02/2012 09:13

Yes, a few weeks for me each time. Embarrassed to say that I didn't know what lochia was the first time.

curiousgeorgie · 13/02/2012 20:17

After my CS I had hardly any bleeding at all... literally was a two days of 'very light period'.

chandellina · 13/02/2012 20:55

I was surprised to have it for six long weeks. Was only about two weeks with my vb. No idea why it lasted so long, everything went totally smoothly

charlie7 · 13/02/2012 22:29

Less than VB for me- had 5 weeks of it with VB and about 3/4 for cs and was much lighter.
