Lochia - is this normal?? (TMI!!)

Hi. I had dc3 2.5 weeks ago by a straightforward VB with no stitches and just a graze. I thought my lochia had all but stopped but a week or so ago I started getting gushes of quite bright red blood every day or so. There's no bleeding between these times. It started after I'd been signed off by the midwife or I'd have mentioned it to her. Is this normal? Shall I just wait and see the GP at my 6 week check or go sooner?

Thanks

Just seen noone has replied to you...have you been overdoing it? ( obviously I see you have more children so guess you must have been!)

I found if I did too much - even lifting my older DC onto the swing - several weeks after birth, I had fresh bleeding, as in red blood.

But would always advise seeing the GP, better to be sure...hope it clears up!

PS congrats on the new baby! Smile

Thanks for the reply. Could be overdoing it. I was wondering if it could be related to straining slightly when pooing (TMI -sorry!).

I was told if i did too much then the lochia/bleeding would get heavier. Took about 4 - 5 weeks for it to stop completely. If you are concerned then I would suggest you mention it to your health visitor, or just phone your GP to be on the safe side.

Mine stopped then came back a few days later with a gush when I was sitting on my gym ball thing (comfortable with stitches). I think I asked the MW and she said it was fairly normal, it can kind of 'pool' inside you and then flood out.

Congratulations on the new baby :)

Same here (though had a c section). I think it pools inside and comes out when you do too much-so explaining the occasional thing. But they checked and my iron was very low. May be worth asking the MW to check?

you should still go to your dr or Mw though - my discharge book says that if it starts again bright red to rind the ward.

Thanks for the replies. The pooling thing does make sense. I think I'll see how it goes over the weekend and maybe see the GP next week if it's still happening.
