I was in absolute tears watching the 2nd baby, mum had normal first delivery, then that frightening 2nd. I hope this doesnt happen to me. :(

So glad baby was all ok, but I just couldnt believe my eyes!

It was scary viewing, DH kept trying to interrupt with household tasks but I couldn't stop watching. Not sure I should have watched, 36wks tomorrow...! It was good to see everyone was fine in the end though, staff were great

I was really upset about baby being away from mum and dad. I know the doctors need to look after the baby, but someone needs to touch and cuddle it too.

I think that's what I'm scared of, wanting to hold my baby close and it being taken away when I can't move. Husband knows this and will accompany baby if possible should baby need to leave me.

16 weeks + 1

What gorgeous brave women and babies xx

My heart was in my mouth watching that, that poor woman looked terrified! I'm 32 weeks and really wish I hadn't seen that Sad

I keep reassuring myself that they all came out okay, although that little splint on the baby's arm was really disturbing! I didn't know that could happen.

Am I right in that Mum didn't get to see the baby at all, until they brought her down later? It looked like Dad got called over to see the baby, but they wheeled the baby out and Mum never even got to see. It looked like they were walking at not a break-neck speed at that point, and it seemed that they could have least let her take a little look. But maybe we don't get to see everything that happens?

(And has anyone else noticed that no one ever seems to have a third stage in this show? Baby, then it's all over...)

Dozeyland · 10/02/2012 20:59

I know! in the first series I think, I remember seeing one of them in 3rd stage, but not a lot of filming.....

I think they also need to show other birthing positions other than on their backs Hmm

Its important to remember that the incidence of shoulder dystocia is really low, less than 1%, and the portion which are that bad and end up with fractures, are even lower, about 10% of those.
You might recall a couple of weeks ago Kerry's baby had shoulder dystocia and it was resolved in the delivery room pretty quickly. lifebegins.channel4.com/explore/parents/mothers/series-3/trish/video/kerry-gives-birth-to-baby-jamie
If you want to avoid SD, try and be in a squat or on all 4s, as this opens your pelvis giving a lot more room.
