If you're constipated upto and when you do go into labour,
Are you more likely to poo in labour? Not that
Its anything to worry about. I just wondered.

Yes! My Mum tells the story of when she had me a nurse whipping out a razor and giving her a dry shave !! Ouch!

Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2012 20:47

Lovely-an enema and a dry shave. What's not to like? Sad

I didn't poo during labour, I know this because once my contractions started I had a lovely period of about three hours where I was sick and had the runs. Believe me, there was nothing left inside to come out later.

Ohgoonthenpouranother · 02/02/2012 20:59

I poo regularly. At 38 wk preg with ELCS booked, I didn't think about poo.
I ended up in labour so had EMCS. Three days later still no poo = infection and impacted bowels.
So do try to poo in labour.
It was agony and worse than labour pains.

I was also v terrified about having the first poo after childbirth. Sad

doinmummy · 02/02/2012 21:06

The hospital gave me a mild laxative after the birth so the poo wasn't too 'hard'. Was still scared to go though.
I remember having the runs when my waters broke too. Natures way of trying to evacuate before the birth. I still managed to squeeze a jobby out though!

I didn't poo but I was SO paranoid about it it's all I could think about Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 03/02/2012 10:33

Same as me first. Both births. I was obsessed with not having a poo.

ZuzuBailey · 03/02/2012 13:24

The enema was fine (as I said, quite a relief really).

Yes, it was the first poo after birth that was ouchy - could have done with the enema then.

I spent the first 10 mins of pushing trying to hold in my poo, then thought, sod it! I pood, and announced to husband that I had pood and he laughed and that was it over with! You won't be able to push your baby out without a bit of pooping if there is any in your system. The midwife whisks it away never to be mentioned again... Promise! X
