Small placenta - has anyone ever experienced this?

I was induced with my Dd as her growth had slowed down.

I was induced and DD was born two days before her due date.

Up until then my growth had been fine.

Dd was exactly 6lbs when born. And when my placenta was delivered the consultant (I had a forceps delivery) said 'wow that placenta's small'.

Now I've never heard of a small placenta, I have no idea what caused it and I would like to know more about it and how I could prevent it from happening in subsequent pregnancies

I dont know that much about it but I had a small placenta, my DS was 5lb 6oz (predicted 8lb).

I had growth scans and that scan that checks the blood flow to baby (not sure what its called) but it was not picked up til the birth.

I had pre-eclampsia that showed up at 31 weeks, I had the steroid injections and was on meds to lower my blood pressure which all contributed, as far as I am aware its partly due to the body rejecting it.

Did you have any complications or take any meds, all can be a factor, as long as your DD was fine I wouldn't worry to much, my midwife just said i'd be monitored more closely from an earlier stage if I had another.

Well I'm rhesus (sp?) negative and she is positive, so maybe that's another factor to consider.

I did have steroid injections around 35 weeks, I'd had some contractions so it was a precaution really.

No I had additional scans as I had quite a lot of reduced movements. It was never identified at any of them.

Yes I've been told I'll be under consultant care if I have anymore. I've tried googling it and there's not an awful lot out there about it
