If you had a CS last time and hospital policy is not to induce, when might a CS be scheduled if you don't go into labour?

I have an appointmtent with the consultant at 34 weeks, but I'm only 27 ish and impatient to know what the usual plan is in this situation.

I'd much prefer to try for a VBAC and went into labour a week past my due date last time, just wondering what to expect.

I kept forgetting to ask at MW appointments!

thanks :)

When I tried (and failed) my vbac, I was 5 days over and was due to see the consultant the following day to discuss cs date.

I had an emcs then a planned section at 39 weeks with next pregnancy

Thanks, I'm hoping I'll get the info on policy when I meet the consultant in 6 weeks time, but it's interesting to hear what happened to others. :)

If the plan is VBAC, they may be happy to give you a CS date at 41/42 weeks for in case you need it, it can be brought forward if needed, or postponed if you want to wait a bit longer. When I was researched for my VBAC it seemed setting a date around 41 weeks was a good plan, apparently if you didn't labour by then the chances of a successful VBAC dropped a bit.

But it is all pretty flexible, what with babies being a bit unpredictable. I went to almost 41 weeks with first, was 39 +2 ish for second, the attempted VBAC.

Hi

I had a emcs after a induction caused DD heart to stop. So induction is off the cards this time, if i dont labour naturally my cs is booked for 40+10 but i really want a vbac
X

Hi I went to 40+11 with my last vbac and although they wouldn't induce they did break my waters. Justed wanted you to know that could be an option as well.

thanks all. :)

I had a VBAC with DD2 after emcs with DD1 (DS1 was natural birth, so I knew it was possible). When I was 40+7 they booked me in for a cs two days later - I wanted to wait another week, as I really wanted a VBAC but apparently they "didn't have any available slots" due to an impending bank holiday. Worth noting if you leave it late to decide.

Anyway, I had a sweep and went into labour the next day, delivering DD2 VBAC about 5 hours before my scheduled cs slot. Amazing what the threat of an unwanted cs can do.

i previously had an ELCS (breech) but opted for a VBAC nfor DC2. However at 41+2 i decided i was not going to be induced so booked myself in for a c-section at 41+5. Waters broke 41+3 - ended up labouring for 10 hours - after 4 hours i decided a VBAC WASN'T for me as Labour = outch!!) and had an EMCS 6 hours later.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 02/02/2012 17:01

I had an emcs with DD1 and an ElCS with DD2. The "plan" was to let me try for a natural (i.e. if it started on its own) VABC at 38 weeks if DD2 was small. She measured 40 weeks at 36 weeks and the doc wanted to take her away then which I managed to let it go till 37.5. She was born almost 3 weeks early and 3.820 kg. Seeing how hard was the last week on me I did regret for a while not agreeing on 36 weeks ElCS. But we are both healthy, and no trauma this time around.
All in all it all depends on the size of the baby, your shape and health, your personal conditions, what happened the 1st time....

DD1 was 4.170 Kg at 41+ weeks. I was 4.250 at 40 weeks. the biggest baby in our family was past 5 kg, none of them was early so I didn't have much hope for a small early baby anyway.

I got a wee chat with the MW. She reckons I will be able to go at least a week 'overdue' before they think of doing anything. They would try sweeps, artificial rupture of membranes and prehaps closely monitored drip of Syntocinon before thinking about a CS.

Will hopefully get to go into more detail with consultant when I see him in 5 weeks time re monitoring etc.

Thanks again. :)

Mee too about the drip alorsmum my eyebrows must have gone up really high when she mentioned it! Grin She said they definitely don't do peassary or gel though Hmm

I am in no rush at all and will be requesting waiting wherever possible. Hopefully it is a positive thing that I went into labour myself at 40+7 last time.

Will quiz consultant thoroughly....I've not seen him yet, it's just one meeting at 34 weeks as far as I know.
