Inverted 'T' cut in uterus for first caesarian - any experiences?

Because I have a bicornuate uterus and my DS was breech, the surgeon had to cut both horizontally and vertically to get him out head first.

I'm now 29 weeks with DC2 and my consultant has said it's dangerous to let me labour as I'm at much higher risk of uterine rupture because of the additional cut.

He says as long as all continues smoothly I'll have an elective at 39 weeks.

Just wondered if anyone else had had an inverted T cut and how their experience was second time around.

I guess I'm worried about additional scar tissues, adhesions and blood loss being worse because I was cut more first time.

I didn't have a t cut but my previous c-section meant I had a problem with my second as the placenta had adhered and didn't fall off. Surgical team was brilliant and although I had major blood loss and a blood transfusion I was still only in hospital for 48 hours. There is no reason that should happen to you - they cut out the scar tissue and scans should show up adhesions. Best thing is to have c-section as they will already be in there if there are any problems and can sort them.

I had an inverted T cut during my emergency C-Section with DC1. Now 12 weeks pregnant with DC2 and like you have been told I will have to have an elective C Section due to risk of uterine rupture. I think I read somewhere that the risk of uterine rupture following a regular CS is around 1%, and that doubles to around 2% following a CS with an inverted T cut (but don't quote me on that!).

To be honest, I hadn't really thought about the possibility of complications due to the earlier CS. More focused at the moment on the possibility of re-occurring pre-eclampsia. But interested to hear others' experiences. I lost 2 litres of blood last time, so hope blood loss won't be worse this time!

Thanks for the replies.

Stangirl how are you doing? we were on the same postnatal thread for our first children.

Coincidentally, redgecko I had high blood pressure and IUGR with my first pregnancy and touch wood it doesn't seem to be recurring (well it had already started at this stage and I'm still fine this time round). 2% is still a very small risk but I'm glad I'm having a caesarian just in case.

I had a T Cut because the surgeon used forceps when I was not fully dilated and my baby was large so he got stuck and they had to do an emergency c section and T Cut to get him out the other way.
I'm pregnant again and advised the new team that I must have a C section because of my T Cut and some of them keep saying maybe you can have a natural birth. Do they not know the consequences? I'm worried 😯
