Can anyone talk to me about home water births?

I have decided to get a birthing pool and have a water birth at home. I had DS2 at home so happy with all aspects of a general home birth.

But I was wondering if you can just decide to have a water birth at home or if I need to double check with the MW first. She knows I want a HB and she delivered DS2. But do they have special water birth training or not?

I just don't want to say I am having a water birth and then on the day have MWs who don't know about water births and say I can't go in the pool.

I am seeing the MW in 2 weeks so I can talk to her about it then too.

Thanks.

I had larger pools and so it was an option for us. At antenatal classes they'd shown us a video of a pool birth and the partner was in there too, so it much happen occasionally. I must admit it didn't appeal to me as I wanted my own space. After seeing the amount of junk left in the pool afterwards DH was very glad he'd not been in there too Grin

The pools I used were the sort that were set up and kept warm and ready for when you needed them (which was just as well due to plumbing issues and speed of labour). With dd2's pool I was in it every night before the birth (after dd1 had gone to bed) and it was lovely and relaxing :)

With dd3's pool I had dd1&2 in it with me before hand. It was very splashy, shrieky and much less lovely! All 3 dds did try the pool once before ds was born, they splashed so much the floor got soaked and I banned them from going in again! Grin
