Why was ELCS was 'only safe option' last time and now VBAC is being pushed ?

Last time I wanted VBAC and was told at every consultant appointment that VBAC's were dangerous, me and the baby would die. Had very crap and scary but non lethal VBAC.

Now I requested the bloody ELCS which they kept pushing on me last time, as the safest best option. Oh no, I can't/shouldn't have ELCS, VBAC is much safer cheaper and better for our csection figures for you and baby.

Plus they have my dates out by at least 10 days but won't change it even through I know when I am due. So even if I get an ELCS, they do them at 38 weeks, which will be 36.5 weeks or earlier for this baby.

Meh, they wonder why I have problems with hospitals. But I have chocolate so all is now right with the world. :)

They came by vbac unexpectedly at 33+4 in august but are thankfully doing well. if you search my name you should find the whole elcs vs vbac story.

'I have been thinking of how I can try to reduce my pain levels and encourage the hospital to give me an EMCS, if I go into labour prior to 42 weeks (by their dates). '

Sounds like your best plan might be to get arsey in advance. Make it clear that, should this happen:

  • you will refuse all intervention
  • you will refuse examinations
  • you will be lodging a signed refusal of forceps/ventouse on your notes, with your GP, and will be bringing a copy to the hospital
  • you will refuse monitoring
  • you will bring a doula to the hospital to advocate for you
  • you will be repeating a request for C-section at the time and should this not be forthcoming and the slightest thing go wrong, you will be prepared to take action against the hospital.

Translates as - if I turn up in labour, I'm going to cause you such hassle that you'd be better off covering your arses by giving me a section straight away.

headfairy, Good suggestion about pencilling me in for a CS when 'overdue' for dates. I'll try that.

TheCuntwormUnderfoot, I always refuse monitoring, water breaking, gel/drug inducements. I suspect they don't care to what you object to pre-labour, as they insist do it anyway once you are in hospital and in too much pain to object. Hmm Sneaky eh ;)

good luck babieseverywhere, I thought a bit of diplomacy would help in my case and I'm a wimp and having that cs date already booked in made it much easier when it came to it to opt for that rather than be bullied in to an induction.

Thanks, I'll update later on. :)

Well I am now 36 weeks (their date) or 34.5 weeks (my date) pregnant and I am going to be having an consultant meeting in the next week or two.

I am very nervous of what will be discussed.

After all she has already rejected an home birth request on the basis that I can't have a normal birth AND rejected an ELCS request on the basis that I can have a normal birth Hmm

So I will interested to know what she will be pushing recommending at this meeting.
