Private elective c section - which hospital in SW London?

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help. I'm wanting an ELCS and if not granted by NHS will go privately. Have been told at Kingston hospital you can have NHS care and a private section. This works out a little cheaper?

Can anyone help on the cheapest option as money is quite an issue!

Would really appreciate your advice.

In sw London there's only Kingston with a private wing. Hobsons Choice really!

Kings will grant you an ELCS on the NHS - they did with me twice - with no medical reason.

Why are you wanting an elective caesarian? Just interested likes!

Can I ask, Spatone, why you're asking? If the OP was hoping for an all natural drug-free birth, would you be questioning her about her choices?

Annoyingly I am not in the catchment for Kings. I'm SW13. Thank you for responses!

If you're willing to travel to Camberwell (not strictly SW, but SE) you can have an ECLS privately at King's in the Guthrie wing. The obstetricians who practise there are William Dennes and Christina Yu. PM me and I can send you the details (although the prices might be a little out of date).

I had a planned c section at Kingston, privately with the truly magnificent Mr Andrew Pooley. (He does NHS work there too)

Fantastic experience, encouraged to write a birth plan, skin-to-skin in theatre. We then chose to move to the private wing although I could have had a private room on the main ward.

I'm not sure about the whether it's the cheapest option, but I had a C-section at Queen Charlotte's (I also live in SW13, and it's a nice easy journey up there) rather than Kingston. I switched over at 20 weeks to private care, & was charged the full amount but BUPA paid 1/3 of the costs as the C-section was medically necessary. I don't know whether you can have NHS care & a private section there, but might be worth looking into anyway - the care I received there was fantastic. PM me if you want any other info.
