I think it depends on the luck of the draw. Some people find it a breeze and are back in their skinny jeans the next week (okay, maybe not). I (perhaps stupidly) thought that the recovery would be as easy, if not easier than my EMCS. Ended up with 8 weeks of wound infection, antibiotics and a massive haematoma. Took me about 12 weeks to feel well again.
Hopefully, I was just unlucky, but it's just impossible to say.

Watching with interest, 2nd section booked for three weeks time. I'm just pretending I didn't read above post.

Would really like to know what other experiences people have had.

2nd was fine, but 1st was traumatic labour then EmCS with complications, so ElCS was a breeze comparatively. I was also prepared and had safeguards in place, so didn't need to lift or shop or clean anything for the 1st 6 weeks.

I recovered quicker from my elective than I did from my emergency section. Probably down to the fact that I wasn't completely knackered when I had my elective. I had dd2 on Friday, home on Sunday and out and about by Tuesday.

I also found my elective cs much easier to recover from than the emergency cs.

You know when you are going in so it is easier to organise everything. You aren't anywhere near as tired as you haven't been in labour for hours on end. I was up on my feet so much quicker the second time. It was all round a much happier experience.

Did you have a normal VB with your first child?

I thought that my second CS was a much tougher op than then first one, and it took longer.

Personally if I thought that I had a good chance of a normal vb I would go for that, if not then a CS is OK, and certainly allows you to plan childcare etc.

Had 2 sections. With the first I had quite a big bleed but no bother with the second. Recovery with both was fine. Up and about in no time really.

Good luck!
