Hi there. I have experience of Good Hope if that's any help. I have two DS, both very different births, both at Good Hope. First was in 2005, left alone quite a bit and not a very helpful midwife. ended up in an EMCS, had forceps, vontouse, epidural, etc. I also lost a lot of blood and had two transfusions and a drain put in for a few days. afterwards they put me in a private room as i was very poorly but I could not fault the after-care. I didn't feel a pain for buzzing, there was always someone there. They even sat with me in my room in the night and helped me wind DS (I couldn't move much). I was in for 4 days and was just grateful to them for saving my life to be honest. I didn't realise how poorly I was until after.
Fast forward to 2011 and after fertility issues also dealt with at Good Hope (due to endometriosis and blocked tubes) I had a natural birth with just gas and air to my DS2. I was all booked in for a planned CS as didn't want to go through him getting stuck again and end up with an EMCS, wanted someone who had had time to read my notes and knew what they were doing, etc. But DS had other ideas and after what I thought were braxton hicks, I was 5cm when I went in and he was born 2 and a half hrs from going into a delivery room! The midwife was excellent, a young girl who didn't force me to lie on the bed (I got on at the pushing stage so they could check me and didn't have time to get back off again). She understood I was scared because of last time and was very quiet in the background, but totally supportive and never left our side.
I think they have improved a lot in 6 years! I would go there again as I felt all the people I saw were very supportive of my decisions and it was clean etc. I do think its down to whatever midwife you get on the day tho, and how busy they are. First time I was in labour throughout the night, this time I was in labour in the afternoon (April) - whether that makes a difference, lol.
Just hope you have a smooth birth and good luck in making your decision!
