Me again on being induced! Am hoping those of you who have been induced without needing to go on a drip can let me know! My mw told me that it is a possibility.....which surprised me, can some of you confirm it with me !?

It depends beka.

If the prostin works well or you are already a little dilated then ARM (breaking your waters) will usually kick start strong contractions.

I didnt need prostin i had ARM. With DD i was 3cms dilated from 7.30am until i had ARM at 3pm. I was still only 3cms at 7pm so they used the drip with syntocin in because the contractions apparently werent strong enough to push baby down to dilate my cervix. I needed eve n more when pushing as my contractions started to disappear.

With DS i had ARM and that was more than enough to get things going and i didnt need anything else.

Each woman is different, and each labour is different.

HTH.

Induction with both my boys, both different.

Ds1 -

Went to hospital at 10am and had a pessary. Nothing happened so was given another on late afternoon. Nothing seemed to be happening so at 11pm they said i would be going onto the ward. At half 11 I got tummy ache and kept walking backwards and forward to the toliet as I thought i had an upset stomach. Realised I was in labour and dh was called. Ds1 was born a couple of hours later. I had gas and Air.

Ds2

Went to hospital again at about 10am, wasnt seen for a while but when the midwife came to see us she decided to break my waters to get things going. This didnt hurt but contractions started straight away. I had gas and air, Ds2 was born 2 hours later.

No drips!

Beka-ds was induced 10 days late with the gel in vagina-no drip OK!

Gel in at 6am,established labour at 1130am,had him at midday with one push!

My SIL had one lot of gels and had her little boy five hours later - No drips!! Hurrah!!

so it is possible! im really hoping that i dont have to have a drip not only for the fact that from the stories i heard the drip fastens things up which can cause more pain because it all kind of goes BANG at once...but 4 many other reasons such as i hate needles (even though i cant avoid this one altogether i know!) and because i feel as though it'l affect my mobility and i wont beable to use the shower etc.
I have had a show so im hoping maybe the mw will beable to break my waters and it will get things going......still got my fingers crossed that SOMEHOW this baby will decide to come out on its own within the next 40 hours!

Thinking of you Beka - Really hope that this baby comes out without the necessity for a drip - I do know how you feel - I had to be induced with my DD2 cos my waters went, but I didn't go into labour. They gave me two lots of gel, which didn't make any difference and then they had to put me on a drip cos her heartbeat was fluctuating - I am absolutely terrified of needles and having the cannular put in was the worst bit ever (despite the emmla cream and local anasthetic!!) However, although being induced did speed things up an awful lot and was about ten times more painful than my 1st natural birth - it was heaps quicker (just under 2 hours) and none of it seemed to matter at all when I held my little daughter in my arms for the first time. So it really isn't all that bad, just a means to an end at the end of the day.

Having the cannular taken out doesn't hurt one little bit - it is just a teeny tiny tube on your arm that just slides out painlessly.

All the very, very best Beki - I really hope you do not have to have the drip, but just concentrate on getting that little one out into the world safely - Can't wait to hear your news!!!!!

Baby 10 days late so went into hospital at about noon and had a pessary. Went for a walk etc. Nothing happened so was given another pessary late afternoon (about 6pm) and told would break my waters in morning as nothing likely to happen as first attemp had not worked and husband went home. About I hour later (7pm) I got tummy ache and kept walking backwards and forward to the toliet as I thought i had an upset stomach so too embarassed to tell anyone for fear of looking like I was making a fuss. Finally realised I was in labour but too late to get to delivery room and so Ds1 was born one hour later in a meeting room off the day ward!!! I had gas and air despite planning for any drug available. No drip and seemed that hospitals try a couple of pessarys and breaking waters before drip is used but could just be a local preference. Good luck, everone told me being induced was awful but personally found it fine and the labour seemed very quick compared to other friends so not all bad.

hi, ive been induced twice, never needed the drip. ds1, one lot of prostin gel, babe born 3.5 hours later. ds2,they just broke the waters, babe born 2 hours later. i think a lot depends on how near you are to the end of your pregnancy and how ready your body is. good luck!

Any progress Beka!!? - Am avidly watching this thread and really hoping that you are going to go into natural labour soon and that you won't need to be induced at all - Don't worry hun - you'll soon be holding that little bundle in your arms!!
